It’s official, six more weeks of winter ❄️ it was prognosticated this morning by our neighbor to the northeast Punxsutawney Phil. #groundhogday #punxsutawneyphil #bushyrunbattlefield
Bushy Run Battlefield preserves and interprets for citizens and visitors the site of this pivotal battle fought between British and Native Americans during the conflict known as Pontiac's War (1763-64).
(102)
Colonel Henry Bouquet and a force of approximately 400 British soldiers left Carlisle in July to relieve the besieged Fort Pitt and end a series of unchecked attacks against frontier outposts. The opening of western Pennsylvania to settlement was the result of a decisive victory over the Native Americans at the Battle of Bushy Run, August 5th and 6th, 1763. Highlights of the site include the interpretive exhibit, “The March to Bushy Run” at the site’s visitor center, as well as guided and self-guided tours, special events and educational programs. ***YOUR FIRST LOOK***
Southwestern Pennsylvania played a key role in a war that led to the American Revolution in the 18th Century. And many of the key sites of the conflict are preserved and restored for future generations. A new WQED documentary provides insight to these historic battlefield sites.
In the mid-1700s, the world's two greatest military powers, France and Great Britain, focused their attention on western Pennsylvania. The French were seeking Native American trade partners in a land of abundant natural resources, while the British were looking to colonize. This set the stage for a world war with key battlefields in the Pittsburgh region. With stunning photography and fascinating interviews, the 30-minute documentary takes viewers to historic sites including Fort Ligonier, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Fort Pitt Museum, Bushy Run Battlefield, Braddock's Battlefield History Center, and historic Westmoreland Historical Society & Historic Hanna's Town.
"Out of the Woods: Battlefields of Western Pennsylvania" was produced, filmed & edited by multiple Emmy® Award winner Paul Ruggieri. The documentary was made possible with support from the Allegheny Regional Asset District and the members of WQED.
Premieres January 14th at 8pm on WQED!
