As we celebrate the artistry of women across different time periods, media, and styles, we take a moment to recognize still life artist Janet Fish.

For over 50 years, Janet Fish created still life scenes that celebrate light and color. In her work, the “everyday” objects were supporting players used to show the movement of color and light across a surface.

The arrangement of objects also reveals Fish’s interest in juxtapositions. Large and small, bright and shadow, heavy and soft combine seamlessly in [After a Wedding], where light dances across vibrant flowers in glass jars, tossing shadows on to a white cloth and colored ribbons that rest on top of a grassy patch.

See it in person: Visit us at the Cu**er Museum of Art & Gardens to experience [After a Wedding] - currently featured in our newest exhibition, Art in Bloom - and see what’s blooming in the gardens.

Celebrate Women’s History Month: Join us for a special guided tour highlighting the significant contributions of women in our collection!

“Beauty is impressive, no matter where it may be encountered” – Ninah Cu**er

It is only right to kick off Women’s History Month by celebrating the extraordinary Ninah Cu**er.

More than just the founder of the Cu**er Museum of Art & Gardens, Ninah was a visionary, philanthropist, and civic leader who devoted her life to enriching the Jacksonville area.

From her efforts in organizing relief for the city after the fire of 1901 to her three decades of service as president of the Women’s Advisory Board of the Children’s Home Society of Florida, Ninah’s passion for community and positive change is matched only by her dedication to the beautification of Jacksonville.

Ninah's legacy continues to live on in every work of art, every garden bloom, and every moment of inspiration shared here.

Want to learn more? Head to the Museum to see Ninah’s vision come to life and to explore the work of women artists in person!
