During the search for Selah Wait Hall’s burial site, who was one of the first deaf teachers for 33 years at ISD, talked with the Superintendent for the City of Jacksonville Cemeteries and learned a mind-blowing fact that students perished in the dormitory fire. Now the the local historical and genealogical society is doing a little research. ❤️

ISD Alumni in the works with a legend. A machine and driving force, Robert “Bob” Poncar, enjoyed his outstanding day of fishing with John Harper and John Hajduk at Lake Erie. According to Jacksonville Journal Courier, Bob ran against a man who would go on to become a world champion in his own right JHS Ken Norton, who later challenged and beat world heavy-weight boxing champion Muhammad Ali. Bob and Ken faced off in the 100 yard dash. Although both men were highly competitive, Bob later said he and Ken became close friends.

Random ISD Facts. Main Building’s square footage, located in Jacksonville, is about 3,000 square feet bigger than the White House, with an impressive 57,978 square feet of space. Unfortunately, that was before the old dining hall attached to the Main Building burned down.
