This weekend on October 17 – in addition to hosting one of our “Open Saturday” events – the Norman Studios Silent Film Museum will be holding a garage sale of vintage furniture and other unique paraphernalia. Please note items for sale are not old set dressings from silent era filmmaking, although this very special event will take place in what’s called the “prop garage” where those types of articles were once stored. Everything happens from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on our museum grounds at 6337 Arlington Road in Jacksonville. Museum admission is free although donations are so very much appreciated!

Earlier this week the Norman Studios Silent Film Museum had the pleasure of hosting our friends from the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society. If you’ve never visited them to learn about that facet of our city’s history, you should certainly put it on your list! A connection with our museum can be found in a photo from film comedian Oliver Hardy’s Jacksonville scrapbook. It shows he and his colleagues from the Vim Comedy Company on an outing to Mandarin in 1916. (This rare photo is courtesy of our friend and Laurel & Hardy historian Randy Skretvedt.)
