What an incredible night to hear about Jackson native, Ruby Falls. Dr. Kate Ngai shared the both inspiring and tragic story of the early and influential African American female country musician. Thank you to Dr. Ngai for lifting up the story of Ruby Falls.

Join us on June 11th from 5pm to 7pm to celebrate the opening of On Contentious Ground with light snacks and a decaf coffee bar.

On Contentious Ground is a series of medium and large format photographs focused on visitors to American Civil War sites and landscapes. By documenting how people move through and reflect within these spaces, Powell captures the reverberations of the Civil War as they echo into the present.

The work explores themes of identity, memory, division, and historical reckoning. By photographing both people and place, the exhibition asks how Americans continue to relate to a past that remains deeply formative and unresolved. We hope to see you there.
