The animals here at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum are beating the heat with automatic watering troughs in many areas around the museum grounds. Those that don't have automatic waterers in their pastures have their troughs and waterers cleaned and refreshed regularly.
Our staff members participated in a refresher training today on appropriate ways to feed, water, and care for our animals in this heat.
Our farm animals in the Children's Barnyard would love for you visit soon!

Our General Store Manager is busy getting ready for all of our fall events and invites you to come visit soon!

“Step back in time right in the heart of our modern capital city. The Small Town General Store brings 1920's small-town life to present-day Jackson, bridging the gap between yesterday and today for young and old alike.

Whether it's walking across the creaking boards of the front porch, taking a break in the old rockers for a friendly game of checkers on our old checkerboard, hearing the squeak of the old hinges or the tinkling of the antique doorbell, the sights and sounds of the General Store serve as a reminder of what small-town life may have been like. The General Store serves as the centerpiece of Small Town Mississippi where fond memories are relived for some, and new memories are made for others.

We link the lessons of the past and the hopes of the future as we serve the very young and the quite aged as we show how the community spirit of the past still shapes who we are today.”

Please join us for the last of our 4-part series of luncheon lectures coming to the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum. The highlight of this lecture will be How We Pickled Our Food: 1850 – 1920, located in the Heritage Center Gallery Auditorium, September 11th starting at Noon.

Join Research Historian Casey Heilman, for an opportunity to sample some of the popular flavors of the past. For over 7 years she served as the Living History Coordinator for a small 1847 first person historical site in Findlay, Ohio. She has given presentations for ALFAM, MCWCC, and other institutions.

This official America250 Mississippi project was made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, through support from the State of Mississippi.
