SLEEPY GUY, Traveler, 2023 is currently on view at Unveil Gallery.

Greg Eberhardt‘s paintings reflect shifting states of being, occupying a swinging range of influences including confusion, loss, the unknown, conflict, dissonance, intrigue, joy, harmony, absurdity, and curious optimism.Through his figures, animals, places, and symbols, Eberhardt seeks to host these cycling states, allowing them to be both themselves and something more ambiguous—something beyond their representation.

In light of the devastating fires affecting LA, our hearts go out to everyone impacted. Out of the six incredible artists featured in this exhibition, five live and work in LA—an artistic community that has shown remarkable resilience and creativity.

After much consideration, we’ve decided to move forward with the show as planned this Saturday, from 3–6 PM, at our Irvine space. This is our way of supporting our artists in this challenging time—by celebrating their dedication and providing a platform for their voices to be heard.

Art has the power to connect, inspire, and heal. We’re honored to host this event and bring people together to uplift our artists and their work.

📍 Location: Unveil Gallery, Irvine
📅 Date: Saturday
🕒 Time: 3–6 PM

Let’s stand together and show our support through the power of art. We hope to see you there.

Today is the last day to see our exhibition To Light a Candle. Thank you to everyone who has come to the exhibition!

Unveil Gallery is delighted to share artist Hou Zhuowu, whose ink paintings are featured in To Light a Candle.

Hou Zhuo Wu (b. 1968) is a cultural scholar, collector, appraiser of Chinese classical calligraphy and painting, and a contemporary ink artist.

His work is built on a deep foundation of research and learning in classical Chinese painting, showcasing long-term experimental explorations. His ink paintings are spiritually rich and sensitive, incorporating elements like image collage and AI-generated art to create a slightly strange and absurd visual composition. The fragmented multilingual elements suggest the plurality and juxtaposition of postmodern civilization, as well as the confusion, anxiety, and ambivalence of people, filled with multiple historical and political metaphors.

He maintains a keen sensitivity and adaptability to cultural variations in different social environments. Compared to the coherence of Eastern cultural logic and the textual recounting of Western political identity, he places greater emphasis on the independent intertextual relationship between the two civilizations, valuing personal experiences and authentic expressions of “movement.” He views the ink medium as a highly sensitive and holographic trace carrier, aiming to achieve a concise and exquisite abstraction through a long-neglected Zen-like refinement and an immediate recording of psychological states. His rich cultural spirit and social experiences support the ongoing deepening and refinement of his unique perspective.

Ba’ al Zebub is currently on view at Unveil Gallery.

Lorenzi frequently incorporates animal-like characters with human features, their innocent appearance in sharp contrast with the more suggestive or mature scenarios they inhabit. These anthropomorphic figures, detailed with human attributes, provoke questions about the dualities of purity and corruption. Through this interplay, her works embody a multifaceted exploration of identity and existence, existing as domestic objects, rituals, and surreal worlds that resist simple categorization.

One source of inspiration for the series is Samuel Beckett’s 1961 play Happy Days. In the play, the central character, Winnie, a mature woman, is waist-deep in a mound of dirt in a desolate, post-apocalyptic wasteland. The play is largely a one-woman show, with the male character, Winnie’s husband Willie, being mostly absent and silent. This absence parallels the 2020 drawing series, where the landscapes are exclusively inhabited by female figures, devoid of any male presence. While some have interpreted the work as depicting a matriarchal society, the artist clarifies that it was never about female separatism or a parthenogenetic human race. Rather, the intention was to explore the solitary female experience—women walking the earth alone, bearing their own burdens, and growing older.

Grove, 2020, is currently on view at Unveil Gallery’s latest show “To light a candle” through Dec 20th.
