Apple Pie Making Workshop!

September 10, 2026 at 9 AM (Thursday) please note corrected date

Come join us at the Beechwood Hall to make pies for Apple Festival! If you have never made an apple pie before (crust & all), we will have 2 of our seasoned pie makers leading the group (Rachel Hagen & Jan Melstrom). If you don’t want to make pies, we need folks peeling apples too. Or we need folks telling their stories. 😊

We will have the flour, sugar, apples, etc. Bring your favorite measuring cups, rolling pin, whisk, whatever helps you bake. If you don’t have we will share.

Something fun. Here are some pictures of one of the sunflower plants we sell at the Beechwood greenhouses at the Spring Plant Sale. This is a “waooh” sunflower. It is ONE plant!

Isn’t it amazing? They just keep putting out flowers once they start. (Pat Turner is pretty amazing too).

BHS Members Voting Only - just a reminder the rescheduled Annual Budget & Planning Meeting is tomorrow (8/22/2026) from 10 AM - 2 PM. There will be a lunch break in there too.

We are sad to announce the BHS member Avie Powell has passed away. She was also a member of the Beechwood Friendly Neighbors and Bates Hall Preservation Society.

The Beechwood Hall has been getting a facelift this summer! Our Facilities, Grounds & Maintenance Crew has been replacing rotten boards and Northwoods Painting Service LLC (Mike O’Grady) has been washing, scrapping & painting the exterior of the building. And it sure is looking good!

Just a reminder: Beechwood Historical Society will be having our monthly meeting tomorrow July 20th at 6pm. We are going to have this meeting in the archives at the Bethany Church. It should be cooler there and be less influenced by the smoke. Hope to see you there.

A grave side Memorial and Funeral will be held for John Scott on June 6, 2026, at 11:00AM. John’s ashes will be buried in the grave site where his mother rests at Rosehill Cemetery in Iron River Township. A military honor guard will be present.

Following the service an Art Show to display John’s work will be held at the Beechwood Hall. Samples of John’s artwork will be available for those in attendance.

Donations to the Beechwood Hall will be appreciated.

(John was a special guest at the Beechwood 2017 Artists Show. His work encompassed architectural drawings, commercial art, renderings from many Disney movies, and paintings of local areas in the Iron River Township community. Several of his pieces are displayed in the collection of the Beechwood Historical Society at the Beechwood Hall).
