Nineteen Ninety Six would mark the 5th edition of the California Hot Rod Reunion at the famed Famoso Dragstrip. Although the action on the track was fire hot all weekend, Mother Nature had other plans for the final round. Number one qualifier Paul Romine was set to meet number two qualifier Jim Murphy when the skies opened. Officials made the call to slip the earnings and hand the trophy to the low qualifier.

Congratulations to the Great Expectations III NHRA Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster crew for landing Tyler Hilton in the number one qualifying spot during the 55th Nightfire Nationals with a 5.687 @ 256.75 pass, and for winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive Nightfire at Firebird Raceway with a 5.782 @ 256.80 over Pete Kasier's tire spinning 11.891 @ 69.55.

Congratulations to Tyler Hilton and the Great Expectations III NHRA Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster team for taking the pole during the inaugural Great American Hot Rod Classic at Srca Dragstrip with a 5.728 @ 255 qualifying pass, as well as winning the event with a 5.805 @ 259.51 over Michael Hilton's 9.261 @ 85.75.

From one championship to another, the Bartone Bros. Racing crew made a pit stop at Firebird Raceway for more domination. Blasting to a mind melting 5.664 @ 255.63 in qualifying, Tony Bartone laid down the foundation to more trouble for the competition. In the final round, Jim Murphy's game 5.77 @ 240.94 couldn't hold a candle to Bartone's 5.69 @ 261.32, claiming the victory at the 2016 Nightfire Nationals, the team's third in a row.

In the dark of night, Brad Thompson took his number one qualifying position three rounds and further proved that his hot rod was the baddest in the land in the finals. 5.88 @ 253.30 flashed up on the scoreboard to best Brett Harris' 6.14 @ 210, giving Thompson his first victory at Firebird Raceway during the 2006 Nightfire Nationals.

Congratulations to Pete Kaiser and the entire KFR Top Fuel Dragster team for their 5.761 @ 258.42 blast down the Beech Bend Raceway Park quarter mile, which netted them the number one qualifying spot at the NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, and for winning the event with a 5.905 @ 251.77 pass over Gerald Hangey's 5.939 @ 215.31.

From the second qualifying spot, Adam Sorokin chopped down the christmas tree three times during the 2016 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion to bring home the win for the Champion Speed Shop team. Both final round contenders had to do a bit of driving, with Sorokin's 5.762 @ 237.38 prevailing over Jim Murphy's 6.376 @ 158.87.
