We are happy to announce the winners of our first IHS Photo Contest!

Winners have been emailed. They each won a $50 gift card to a local business, which IHS purchased, as a thank you to the VERY generous businesses in our area. Winners can pick up their prize at the IHS building, starting June 29th - we are open 7 days per week starting that day, from 11am - 3pm.

Remember, the next contest is in session and we are focusing on 6th and 7th Lake!

A Piece of Inlet's History - Free to a Good Home!

The Inlet Historical Society has been caring for a large collection of wedding plates from the former Holl’s Inn. Each one was created by couples who were married there. These plates hung on the walls of the Inn for decades and are a beautiful piece of Inlet’s history.

We now have more plates than we can store, and before we dispose of any, we want to offer them to the community.

If you or someone in your family was married at Holl’s Inn - or if you’d simply like a unique piece of local history, please stop by and take a look. At this point, you can have any plate you want. Plates can be kept as-is or turned into fun projects like garden art, wall displays, mosaics, or keepsakes.

If you own a business in Inlet or the surrounding area, these plates make wonderful nostalgic displays. A small grouping on a wall, a shelf of Adirondack memorabilia, or even a single plate near your register can spark great conversations with visitors who remember Holl’s Inn.

This is a simple way to keep a beloved piece of Inlet’s past alive in your space. First come, first served; donations to the Historical Society are welcome but not required or expected. Please come OR contact us by July 31st. You can message us on FB, or call/text 704-223-7512.

Here is a photo taken next door to the current Inlet Historical Society building. This was taken in 1947. Bike rentals were 40 cents an hour or $2 a day.

Here is a then and now comparison, 120 years apart. This is the channel between Fourth and Fifth Lakes. The woman holding the snowshoes is Harriet Bowman, circa 1905. She lived at Gull Rock Bay on Fourth Lake and had snowshoed to the spot for a photo.
