The Oilwick

The Oilwick The Oilwick is a studio and exhibition space supporting emerging artists in Indianapolis.

“The Oil Wick” is a studio space just outside Fountain Square in Indianapolis, Indiana dedicated to supporting local artists and providing a space for art to thrive. Our long term goal is to bring a sense of community to the artists of Indiana, focusing on collaboration and cooperation to achieve lives focused around art. We (the artists) currently rent a small portion of the building from it’s ow

ners Paul and Suzanne who run a pet food business in the city called “My Pet Carnivore.”

Aside from providing space for creativity we hope to eventually install a community box garden and rent out a larger portion in the back of the warehouse for gallery space and weekly art Meetups.

Our Story

Josh Haines, along with friends Sean Yager and Amy Applegate, founded the studio space shortly after their college careers. Originally, it was just a small section of the old warehouse that the three rented. After enough demand from other artists, they decided to rent out the rest, working on fixing it up along the way and establishing a gallery. At the end of 2017, The Oilwick officially became a nonprofit with a mission to serve the artists of Indianapolis and enhance the art scene as well.

Our primary objective is keeping a low cost studio space and maintaining regular exhibitions in our gallery. In 2018, we started a handful of programs like artist meetups, critiques, classes, and figure drawing as well.
