The Jimmy Stewart Museum is a non-profit organization created to honor the memory of James M. Stewart (1908-1997), distinguished actor, serviceman, husband and father. Jimmy Stewart starred in such memorable films as 'Rear Window,' 'It's A Wonderful Life,' 'Harvey,' 'Mr. Smith Goes To Washington,' 'Vertigo,' 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,' and more than 70 others, spanning a 57-year career. He was nominated for Best Actor 5 times, winning for his role in 'The Philadelphia Story.'

'The Cheyenne Social Club’ features three Academy Award winners: James Stewart (‘The Philadelphia Story’), Henry Fonda (‘On Golden Pond’), and Shirley Jones (‘Elmer Gantry’).

Stewart had previously starred with Shirley Jones in ‘Two Rode Together’ and appeared alongside his longtime friend Henry Fonda in ‘On Our Merry Way’ and ‘Firecreek.’

The screenplay was written by James Lee Barrett (‘Shenandoah,’ ‘Bandolero!,’ and ‘Fools’ Parade’) and was designed to capitalize on the real-life friendship between Stewart and Fonda.

James Stewart and Rosalind Russell shared just one film together, but a friendship that lasted a lifetime.

In 1940, Stewart was loaned by MGM to Warner Bros. to star opposite Russell in ‘No Time for Comedy.’ Their easy chemistry on screen reflected a genuine affection and mutual respect that continued for decades beyond the film.

Join us this week at 1:00 p.m. for our matinee screening of ‘No Time for Comedy’ and enjoy this charming, often-overlooked comedy featuring two of Hollywood's most beloved stars.

Did you know...82 years ago today, Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Stewart helped plan the B-24 aerial operations on D-Day.

Allied forces launched a massive air, sea, and land operation that changed the course of World War II and began the liberation of Europe. D-Day marked a turning point, which stands as a lasting reminder of the extraordinary service and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation.

After serving as a B-24 command pilot on 20 combat missions deep into Nazi-occupied Europe, Stewart served as the 453rd Bomb Group planner for Zero Day of the D-Day invasion.

For his service in World War II, Stewart was awarded, among other honors, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and the French Croix de Guerre with Palm for his contributions to the liberation of France, extraordinary heroism, and valiant service in action.

...and here's Jimmy Stewart's Oscar on the original vintage scale.

For years, it was on public display at the Stewart family hardware store, under the care of his father, Alex Stewart, in Indiana, PA, and it became a true hometown treasure.

How accurately the scale remains calibrated is open to interpretation, but it's worth noting that Oscar statuettes have been made from different materials over the years, including during World War II when metal shortages led to temporary changes in production. An interesting snapshot—and a fun detail to ponder. Did your guess come close?

On May 20, in honor of Jimmy's birthday, the Jimmy Stewart Museum had the incredible honor of hosting BOTH of Jimmy Stewart’s Academy Awards for a special visit!

Here’s a look at his Oscar for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story. While it was here, we became curious…just how much does this Oscar weigh? 🤔

Using the vintage (original) scale from the J.M. Stewart & Co. Hardware Store (pictured in the background), we decided to find out! Make your best guess in the comments, and we’ll share the photo of the Oscar on the scale tomorrow.
