Did you know that the Hutchinson Art Center has off-site exhibition spaces?

The Meeting Rooms at the Hutchinson Public Library is where community members gather throughout the year for meetings, get-togethers, and other events -- and they would get to see your artwork! And once you show at the library, you have the opportunity to show your artwork at the Chamber at City Hall. How neat is that?

☀Kids Summer Art Camp is back at the Hutchinson Art Center!☀

Join us for fun art lessons led by local artist and educator Hannah Beam during the first two weeks of June! Kids will be placed into two groups: Group A (ages 6-9) and Group B (ages 10-12). Grown-ups can sign their children up for Week One (June 3rd - 6th), Week Two (June 10th - 13th), or both weeks. A single week costs $30 per child, and both weeks cost $60 per child.

2025 Class Schedule:
June 3rd - 6th
June 10th - 13th

Group A meet 9:30 - 10:30 AM
Group B meet 11:00 AM - Noon

Tuition: Single week - $30 per child, Both weeks - $60 per child

The kids in our make-n-take art classes this past Saturday took a trip under the sea.

They learned about different kids of fish and made their own underwater seascape using colored pencils, markers, and watercolors for the background and Sharpies on foil to make their own colorful, metallic fish.

A big thank you to teacher Sara Huff and helper Margot Kimble — you two make an excellent team!

Even though Monthly Children‘s Art Projects will be “on break” for now, our Kids Summer Art Camp will soon be here! Join us June 3-6 and June 10-13 for fun art lessons with local artist and educator Hannah Beam here at the Hutchinson Art Center. Call for art instructors for 2025 and beyond!

The Hutchinson Art Center is looking for art instructors to teach kids classes and/or adult workshops. We have had make-n-take art classes and origami classes for children, and drawing, painting (both acrylic and oils), bookbinding, mixed media & collage, and digital art workshops for adults and teenagers in the past -- the possibilities for classes and workshops are endless!

If you've been exploring our website lately, you might have noticed that the way you view our Permanent Collection online has changed.

The Permanent Collection now has its own landing page, which can be accessed through the dropdown menu under 'Exhibits' or by visiting https://www.hutchinsonartcenter.net/permanent-collection.

From this page, you have the option to view the 2-D or 3-D portions of our collection. Each piece in our collection now has its own page with information about that specific piece, including the basics such as title, medium, and artist(s), photos, whether or not it is on view, the credit line, and so much more. From the landing page, you also have the option to view the Artists Index that includes an alphabetized list of all the artists featuring in our collection, which including biographies and a list of works by each artist.

We would like to recognize the hard work of our Executive Director, Emily Kohls, in making this update to our website. While she was still Media Manger, she spent the past few months researching and putting things together so that this could happen. She hopes that this will make viewing our Permanent Collection both on- and off-line a more fulfilling experience. THANK YOU EMILY!

🌟COMING SOON🌟

The Hutchinson Art Association is looking forward to exhibiting artwork related to mental health in our Front Gallery during the months of April and May!

We are proud to partner with the Milestone Clubhouse for this exhibition. Milestone Clubhouse is a local organization that aims to build a community of support for adults with severe mental illness by supporting employment, education, and so much more.

This exhibition shines a light on the creative outlets that people use to help cope with their mental illness and/or take care of their mental health, as well as bring awareness to the importance of mental health.

We are looking for artists to submit their work into this exhibit! If you are interested in submitting artwork into this exhibit, please visit our website at https://www.hutchinsonartcenter.net/visible-voices-entry-form.

This exhibition will be on display in the Front Gallery from April 25th - May 23rd, 2025, with an opening reception on Friday, April 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM to celebrate these artists and their artwork.

The Hutchinson Art Center is proud to announce our live music acts for the Hutchinson Art Fair, which will take place on Saturday, May 10th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Sunflower South Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

The lineup includes...

Color Green (9:00 - 11:00 AM)
Color Green is a Bluegrass/Gospel group based in the Hutchinson/Yoder, KS area, and have been together for about three years. The five members bring many years of musical history into the group. Although they’ve cut their teeth on Bluegrass & Gospel music, other genres have been added — because they’re too good to pass up! They have been playing locally at craft showed, churches and about wherever anyone will listen!

Justin Riggs (11:30 AM - 1:30 PM)
Justin Riggs is a singer-songwriter from Hutchinson, KS who plays original country and folk tunes. He has performed at the Reno County Farmer’s Market and Metropolitan Coffee as well as in various venues across the great Sunflower State. He released his debut album "Hawk | Bison | Sun" in February 2022.

Ralph Brown Trio (2:00 - 4:00 PM)
Ralph Brown is a resident of Hutchinson, KS and has forever been addicted to music. At the age of 8, Ralph was greatly influenced from listening to Charlie Parker records. He started playing saxophone at the age of 13. In 1968, Ralph joined the United States Navy and is a Vietnam vet. He is known for playing a wailing sax in the various bands he has performed with over the years. Ralph and his wife Juanita have three sons and one daughter who are all musicians.

This week is your 🌟LAST CHANCE🌟 to sign up your child for this month's children's art projects!

These make-n-take art classes are an opportunity for children aged 6 through 12 to create their own work of art! This month, students will meet at the Art Center this Saturday, April 19th and be divided into two groups: Group A (1:00 to 2:30 PM) and Group B (3:00 to 4:30 PM), with each group covering different skills. Each group art class costs $8 per child.

The theme for this month’s project is "Going Fishing"!

As things warm up during the Spring months, people go out and enjoy all that nature has to offer. Some people plant flowers and other plants in their gardens and go on bike rides, while others go out to the pond and try to catch some fish.

Groups A and B will be preparing for fishing season with this vibrant watercolor and foil fish project. We will learn how to make a color gradient background with watercolors and use colorful Sharpies on foil to make dazzling metallic fish. We will explore different types of fish that children can use as inspiration for the focal point in their compositions. The students will use markers or colored pencils on top of their watercolor painting to create an underwater seascape.

This past Friday was the BIG day -- it was the opening of the Hutchinson High School International Baccalaureate Student Art Show!

Thanks to the student artists, teachers Julian Stropes and Julia Johnson, the Hutchinson High School Orchestra, reception attendees, and all of those working behind-the-scenes -- this would not have been possible without you all!

The Hutchinson High School I.B. Student Art Show is on display in our Main Gallery now through May 16th, so come check it out and support young artists in our community.
