This week we welcome state archeologist Brad Jones for Texas Archeology Month!

"Meanwhile in the Western Spanish Sea: The Archeology and History of Presidio La Bahía" will focus on one of the earliest presidios established in Texas.

La Salle's failed French colony sparked Spain's efforts to establish a foothold in Texas. Archaeological investigations at the original site of Presidio La Bahía in Victoria County have uncovered rare evidence of this early settlement. This presentation highlights recent discoveries that reveal the diverse cultural backgrounds of its residents and offer new perspectives on daily life in Spanish Texas.

Our friends with the Henderson Yoakum Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and the Walker County Historical Commission invite the community to attend the dedication of the Alamo Letter Monument on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Walker County Courthouse.

This marker dedication commemorates the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the defenders of the Alamo.

The Alamo Letter Society is working to place replicas of the famous 203-pound bronze plaque featuring William B. Travis's "Victory or Death" letter at all 254 county courthouses across Texas. The monument being dedicated in Walker County is part of that statewide effort to preserve and share this important piece of Texas history.
