Ozaki Fine Art www.yuriozaki.com Yuri Ozaki grew up in a small town in Mie Prefecture on the Kii Peninsula of Japan. Yuri came to the US in 2001 to study English.

The area is known for its unique wet climate and a mystical history. This area also features UNESCO World Heritage registered sacred sites and pilgrimage routes. While hiking some of these ancient trails during her visit to Japan in June 2011, Yuri was inspired to create a series of misty forest scenes. The beauty and mystery of her home region has been a strong influence on Ozaki's work. After four years of exploring the southeast, Yuri moved to Huntsville, AL - where she still resides with her husband. Since coming to Huntsville, she has been studying and painting much of the local scenery. Her paintings of downtown Huntsville have been very popular and these works - along with others - have earned her recognition and awards in the area.

Monte Sano Art Festival

Hello everyone,

A quick reminder that the Monte Sano Art Festival (https://www.artshuntsville.org/event/monte-sano-arts-festival/) is this weekend. Last year’s turnout was wonderful, and I’m looking forward to being back.

Over the past year, most of my time and energy has gone into developing new class projects and improving my teaching.

Recently I’ve been exploring cat paintings, inspired by Endre Penovác. I’ll have several of those with me, and I’m planning to offer a cat‑painting class soon.

I’ve also been experimenting with abstract watercolor, focusing on mark‑making and a different creative process than my realistic work. An abstract watercolor class is coming as well.

After the festival, I’ll be reducing my teaching schedule a bit so I can spend more time developing new styles and getting out of the studio.

Thank you for being part of my journey.

We’ll focus on how artists process visual information—an approach that asks your brain to work differently than it ordinarily does.

Paint an autumn leaf. Tomorrow (Saturday August 29th) only. We are having the Open Studio Night. Please come see us.

I might be having too much fun with this abstract watercolor. I had to make the cat I saw hiding.

A student painted this in today’s class with bare-minimum instruction. If you want a relaxed space to experiment, you’re welcome to paint this instead of next week’s whale project. Walk‑ins are welcome 3–6pm, and this one may take a little over an hour.

I’ve been practicing loose watercolor cats and hope to teach this style soon. These studies were painted while following Watercolor with Bodorka on YouTube—highly recommended for anyone who loves expressive watercolor.
