Bill Carter and Janice found this old ledger book I the little house behind the old Idaho Power office house. I was told this old house used to be a church ran by Grace Seaburg and in the early 1960’s was a meeting place for the Morman church. The receipts in this book are from 1917 and most are billed to Stanfield Bros or R N Stanfield who ran a huge sheep ranch up Birch Creek.

I seen this on ebay tonight. This is how old our Huntington water system is. Blue prints for the new Huntington water system dated April 1979. Before our well on the hill we got our water out of the Burnt River. It was run thru a sand filter system, chlorinated and pumped up the hill above where Wiley and Carman Harding live into an open holding tank with a roof. It was nothing to draw a bath and have bugs and mouse parts in your water. During high water season the water out of the tap was brown and full of sediment. The mayor at the time was Bonnie Raney and my dad Evan Olsen was the watermaster. The blueprints list the council members, Charles Carson should be Joseph Grant Carson.

The Brunswick Saloon was run by Pehr (Peter Johnson) who was born in Sweden. This saloon appears in 1894 maps of Huntington, Pehr appears as early as 1889 in local newspapers. He was married to Flora Adams who was a sister of Donald Clark Adams who would take over the business and rename it Clark's Cafe. Sadly Pehr died in 1913 in his early 50's of ALS. This building was last known as Grady's, a beloved place, that is greatly missed.

What was the name of the little cafe that was located in front of what is now Wayne and Dottie's cabins? Codie McLean Simpson said her mom used to work there and Bob Carson said his mom used to make pies for the place. Roger Birchmier said he worked there. I can't find my notes about this place, Had someone visiting at the caboose asking about it.

This is a 1939 picture of part of Huntington's Main Street. Going right to left: Clark's Cafe/bar, Mack's Drug Store, Howell's Cafe, Maybe Bessie's Bakery, Bank, Central Cafe, Smokehouse, Bubb's Shell. I love the 1940 census as it shows people by block number, not just street name. Block 5 has Wm Getchell, age 61, sturgeon fisherman; Ivan Howell, cook at Howell's; Joseph Cundall,40, is dentist-He lived and ran his business out of what later became the Idaho Power office; Ora Baker and family, he worked as a mechanic for Bubb Moter and then Alfred Gardner. All of these people are shown to have rented not owned.

Back of these pictures is marked 26 August 1951. Stevens Bros Circus, launched by brothers Ray and Parker Stevens in the late 1930s, toured the South and Midwest with a streamlined, truck-carried big top noted for its mixed wild-animal acts after World War II. My uncle said the circus he remembers set up on the empty lot going down the Snake River Road where a rodeo area was built in late 1960's-early 1970's. I remember a circus coming to town about 1965 and they set up at the school.

This was a picture Mabel Callahan had of Huntington's Main Street looking west. Note on the back said there were board sidewalks across the street. The wood building on the corner was a western union-phone office, then the Oregon Cafe, then the Portland Beer Hall. You can see the name painted on top of the building,

Here's a fun one for any old timer of Huntington. This picture was found in lodge papers from the upstairs of the IOOF building when they began tearing it down. Carolyn Baker, wife of city marshal Dick Baker sent this to me. I only recognize 3 ladies. Can anyone help ID them? Let's number them Left to right. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 is Dee Johnson, 7 and 8 is definitely my Aunt Betty Houser. (The picture was in black and white and I had it colorized)
