Catching several species in one photo might not be the usual turn of events, but might be some of the best spots for that. How many birds can you identify here? Why are all right here, at the edge of the reed bed? What other species make this possible, share or shape this habitat ?

Photographers Kerry and Linda Hurd have traveled the world, birding as they go. That puts them in the right places at the right times. But even a vernal pool in a the back yard might be the right place—keep your own observation skills sharp!

This first picture may not look like much at first, but it is a "before" picture, and we look forward to posting the "after" picture sometime next year! The new accessible boardwalk will be follow the orange flags to a viewing area. the board walk will then turn and cross over Sherman Hollow brook allowing for accessible birding above the river. Finally, the boardwalk and bridge will allow the museum to reopen 60 acres of trails open to the public !

Thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far! Interested in being part of this project ? Join us for an Art Night Benefit this Saturday (October 24th).

Can't make the event this Saturday,? Join us for upcoming events, visit the Museum, or donate directly.Thank you!

Did YOU see or hear a Blue-headed Vireo migrating last night? Me neither.
But some 3 MILLION birds flew over Vermont last night on their way south. Many birds choose to migrate at night, using stars and waterways as guides, and forage at their stopover sites during the day. Radar and audio detectors can sometimes identify flocks at different altitudes.

Visit https://birdcast.org/migration-tools/migration-dashboard/ to discover what might be over YOUR head this fall!

Carving of a Blue-headed Vireo by Bob Spear; life-size, completed in 1988 after about 40 hours of work. Come see this (and about 525 other carvings) at the museum. We're open 10-4, Wednesday - Sunday, though Halloween. Open by appointment after that.

Pedro Salas, , is a beekeeper and artist. His work often grounds us in the art of the everyday, such as in this painting of a female Belted Kingfisher catching a meal. Find this on the walls at at the museum (through the end of the month); we have cards in our gift shop also.

The Museum is currently raising money to build a boardwalk and a bridge.

This project will create additional accessible birding spots on the property, and will reopen 60 acres of trails that have been closed since the flood of 2024.

On October 24 we are hosting a benefit to support this project. Art Night Benefit will be held in Huntington, VT from 6-8pm. We will gather to visit, learn more about the project and the Museum, eat yummy snacks, and everyone will go home with a piece of art!

Tickets available on our website. Birdsofvermont.org

Hope to see you there!

Sharon Lykins collaged this "Vermont Conservation" piece, linking mountains, forest habitats, rivers, birds, and more. The gold paint suggests a deep value, whether we can measure it or not; the layers remind us there's more here than what we usually notice.

Jo Marsan makes birds that are powerful and delicate, mystical yet real. This bittern embodies all of that, and adds a dash of "I could vanish at any moment, without moving a feather."

Find this from at on instagram and at various markets and galleries around Vermont.

We still have a few prints of their American Bittern (probably); stop in to the Museum before Halloween to find out.
