Special Event: 43rd Annual Iroquois Arts Festival

Howes Cave, NY: Saturday and Sunday, Sept 5th and 6th, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Celebrate Haudenosaunee creativity at this vibrant event featuring an all-Iroquois Art Market showcasing both traditional and contemporary arts and fine crafts.
Highlights include:
• Sky Dancers from Six Nations Reserve (Ontario) performing traditional Iroquois social dances, with opportunities for the public to join in.
• Special Guest: Singer/Songwriter Darryl Tonemah will perform his “Native Americana” music.
• Onondaga storyteller Perry Ground, captivating audiences with dramatic tales of daring feats and adventures
• A family activity area with hands-on crafts.
• Wildlife rehabilitator Kelly Martin, discussing regional conservation and presenting native animals, including birds of prey.
• The Museum’s archaeology department, offering artifact identification and demonstrations of early technologies like flintknapping.

Immerse yourself in Haudenosaunee art, culture, and storytelling.
Cost: $8 members/$10 non-members/$5 children ages 5-17/free children under 5 includes Museum admission.

💜 Community giving back to community. 💜

SchoCo Pride Inc. was proud to donate two gift baskets, filled with goodies from local LGBTQ+-owned & allied businesses, to the Iroquois Museum for their annual fundraiser this month.

Huge thanks to Beekman 1802, Brimstone Bakery, Cute & Wicked Candles and More, Main Street Deli, and Mineral Springs Soap for helping us put these baskets together.

Here's the thing: every single business we purchased from wanted to do more, and either donated additional items or donated the items we were purchasing. That's Schoharie County for you. 🏳️‍🌈

The Iroquois Museum has been a true partner to SchoCo Pride from day one, hosting our very first PrideFest and continuing to champion inclusive community events. Supporting their fundraiser felt like the least we could do, so please come out and support them next weekend at the 43rd Annual Iroquois Arts Festival

Come Dance with the Allegany River Indian Dancers!
Join us this Saturday, August 22, for two spectacular performances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Well-known for their extensive repertoire of Intertribal "Pow wow" style dances, this group offers an unforgettable cultural experience.
A highlight of their performance is Bill Crouse's famous hoop dance, which utilizes 30 hoops to create intricate formations and designs representing elements of nature. Through dynamic group numbers, audience participation, and engaging educational lectures, the dancers share the rich history and vibrant culture of the Seneca Nation.
Event Details:
• Date: Saturday, August 22
• Performance Times: 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
• Admission: Included with regular Museum admission.
• Grilled cheese sandwiches are not included in the price of admission.

Known for their vibrant repertoire of Intertribal "Pow-wow" style dances, the Allegany River Indian Dancers teach Seneca history and culture through engaging group performances, audience participation, and educational lectures.

Event Highlights:

The Hoop Dance: Featuring Bill Crouse using up to 30 hoops to create intricate designs and formations representing the natural world.

Audience Participation: Learn movements and dances directly from the performers!

Admission Details:

Performances are included with standard Museum admission.

Grilled cheese sandwiches will be available for purchase separately.

SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMER – Award-winning singer/songwriter Darryl Tonemah, Kiowa/Comanche/Tuscarora. Darryl’s music combines the energy of rock, the intelligence of folk, and the heart of country -- creating a musical niche he calls, “Native Americana.”
