The Silos at Sawyer Yards is approximately 80,000 square feet of private art studios and creative flex space developed by the Deal Company in 2015. Once the Riviana Rice packaging plant, The Silos is now home to approximately 120 established and emerging artists, arts groups, and creative entrepreneurs. In addition to rotating art exhibitions and public programs throughout the year, resident artis

ts welcome the public into their studios on the second Saturday of each month. The Silos is also home to SITE Gallery, a site-specific alternative art space housed in the base of the iconic old rice silos. 34 round concrete chambers intersect to form SITE’s 9,000 square foot “honeycomb” footprint. The Silos is located in the Washington Avenue Arts District, a state recognized cultural district which boasts the highest concentration of working artists studios in the country. In alliance with the District, The Deal Company and the partner developers behind Sawyer Yards cultivate a supportive community for local artists and creative entrepreneurs.

ClayHouston presents FLUX: 2023 ClayHouston Members' Show. This annual Members’ non-juried show includes diverse works from current ClayHouston members who reside in and around the Houston area. Ranging from sculptural to functional ceramics, this showcase represents artists from varying levels.

Flux is the state of continuous change, an ongoing process, and in the context of clay and glaze, it is an integral element that facilitates important transformations within ceramics. Clay is a volatile medium that requires constant adaptation to translate concepts into tangible objects; from form to surface, ceramics carry evidence of the maker and the processes used. This dynamic material unites the Houston clay community across all backgrounds, levels, and interests.

On view September 21 - November 11 with an opening reception on Saturday, September 30 from 5-7pm.

Canal Street Studios: Satellite Showcase, an exhibition of works by the current resident studio artists of Canal Street Studios, one of Houston's longstanding independent artist-run studio buildings in the city's East End, will be on display at The Silos at Sawyer Yards. This showcase brings two of Houston's studio communities together to increase mutual awareness and visibility, co-inspire, and to develop opportunities for collaboration.

Canal Street Studios is a private visual arts studio nestled right in the middle of Houston's vibrant Second Ward neighborhood and is home base for some of Houston's most established artists. Housed within a beautifully converted 1940's warehouse just a 6-minute drive from downtown, the building consists of 10 studio workspaces.

Participating Artists: Royal Sumikat, Lana Barake, Anat Ronen, Sylvia Blanco, Greg Cote, Ned Gayle, Gerard Harrison, Color Oner 713, Iram 7, Kyler Sommer, Patricia Ramirez, Jose "Meenr" Arredondo, Black Cassidy, Nacho Sanchez

Curiouser and Curiouser, a solo exhibition of new works by Silos artist, Scott White. The show takes place in the Bay 300 Gallery of the Silos at Sawyer Yards, and is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday, from 9-5pm.

The artist writes: "With their eight arms covered in suction cups and their probing eyes, octopi are curious and intriguing creatures. I am fascinated with the way they move and their sense of curiosity and wonder about the world they inhabit. I enjoy placing them in scenarios that may seem out of place. I hope that upon closer study and observation of my imagery, viewers might open their imagination and realize that maybe it’s not so far-fetched.

I create hand-crafted relief prints. In this digital world, my process is deliberately analog. It would be easy to create a digital image for carving and creating screens for printing but I feel that lacks the aesthetic and feel of a handmade piece of art. Small variances and imperfections make each print unique and special. I believe art should be fun and uplifting. This is why I try and create pieces that make people smile."

On view through September 30.
