✨ What To Expect At Our Studio ✨
Here is all the information you'll need to understand how we operate and create at our studio, aside from pricing; which can also be found pinned to our page! This is the general rundown and always subject to change as we are constantly evolving to best fit artistic flow and client needs. Feel free to drop any other questions below, we thank you for your continued support!
✨✨✨
🗓️Hours:
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
11am - 5pm
Monday - Thursday Closed
We operate on an appointment mostly basis. Meaning, we will be in F,S,S when we have someone booked and be available for consultation. If a day happens where we have something like a minimum tattoo and cannot fill the rest of the day, we may not be in afterwards. Appointments are offered at 11am, 1, 3, and 5pm slots. Though it never hurts to send a DM inquiring about a spot; we can easily pop over from home! We will also be running off-skin art events like drawing workshops, painting parties, and print popups to be more social with the community outside of the chair setting. Those, like our Flash Days, will be posted as they are held so keep a peek out!
💉Arrival:
During regular tattoo hours we cannot allow anyone under the age of 18 for the comfort and safety of everyone. Our fine art days will be open to a diverse range of ages and people to enjoy creating though! We always ask that you only arrive in good health, not recently recovering from sickness, but in homeostasis for at least several days to a week before your appointment. We have an immuno sensitive team and don't want to risk anyone! For the same reason, pets are prohibited, though service animals may remain in the lobby if necessary.
When receiving a tattoo it is best to prepare for it like a minor surgery, ensuring your skin and you are ready for a slightly taxing procedure: The weeks leading up to it, try to get extra rest, calories, and hydration. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, waxing, picking or anything else that can cause damage to the area or require you to heal multiple things at once. Exfoliate and moisturize several times, stopping the previous day. Avoid alcohol and blood thinning pharmaceuticals. If you are prescribed anything that disrupts your skin, blood, or immune system please consult your artist and doctor first.
For many reasons we do not recommend the use of numbing creams or other foreign products and request that you inform your artist if you still decide to use them. We will have an entire post on this as well but broadly the reasons are as follows:
👋 Lack of education/experience with the ingredients, formulas, and applications.
👋 Lack of prolonged industry and art testing and record.
👋 Anecdotal client experiences ranging from extreme delayed onset of pain to necrosis.
👋 Unpredictability in canvas texture, saturation, and healing.
👋 Already being outlawed in several states due to risks.
Ultimately we can't make the choice for you, but we hope you do so well informed.
🖌️Booking / Commission:
We specialize in a wide array of arts here, on and off skin, so it's important to thoroughly communicate what you're wanting created for you. When reaching out it helps us streamline the admin process and schedule you more efficiently if you include:
🎨 A verbal/worded description of the primary and secondary subject matters you want to make up the composition. This would be plant, animal, crystal, moon, etc. with leaves, stars, florals, etc. that you want your artist to draw. Please also include if the concept will be covering an existing tattoo or working around others. If the idea is something from pop culture, like a videogame or Pokemon please let us know so we can research it in depth for accuracy.
🔴 We do not do hate/gang imagery and prefer to lean away from Harry Potter, The Puzzle Piece, and other symbols deemed as such.
🔴 We specialize in visual creation so we'll often offer consultantation for those considering a name, word, or number to prompt more artistic concepts of representation.
🎨 The style you want the work created in, this can be as simple as black n grey or color, translated in our hand; or as specific as trash polka, new school, neotraditional, etc. it's always a good idea to familiarize yourself with tattoo styles if you aren't sticking to one theme.
🔴 We do not offer structured sacred geometry or closed culture styles like Polynesian, Pacific Islander tribal. Our realism leans more illustrative as well so if you're wanting a hyper realistic portrait, etc we may recommend one of our other artist friends for that instead.
🎨 The placement you want the composition to flow on and how much of it you want taken up affects the drawing process and the pricing. Be sure to include the side, rough size, etc. For instance, rather than just "forearm" specify "left outer forearm entirety wrist to elbow" or "right inner forearm, palm size below ditch" if you're unsure of placement, tell us the few you're considering.
🔴 Be sure to dress for the placement the day of, allowing complete unhindered access to the area while still maintaining your comfort.
🎨 Your scheduling preference aids us in knowing what days to offer you Friday - Sunday, cutting down on the back and forth figuring. We usually book out 1-3 months and Saturdays go the fastest.
🎨 Real References help to convey the general vibe you're going for and the possible orientation of subjects; they are not catalogs or road maps. The best references to find are real images of the elements in life you've already decided upon. For example, if you want a tattoo of a cat, instead of researching "cat tattoos' look up "long haired cats" or "cat sleeping on its side" "orange cat batting yarn" etc. find the pose, color, breed, etc that you want, not someone's already existing art. This will give your artist a starting point without locking either of you into a vision, allowing for the organic creation of your unique piece. For style, you can pull several references from their portfolio or others you like, but be sure to include many that show the vibe: bold or delicate, bright or muted color palettes, high detail and texture or simplicity and minimalism. One alone will leave us wondering what you enjoy or wish to avoid about the feel and can make your expectations rigid. For fair use media like pop culture, tv shows, videogames, etc. you can send exact references to let us know the source. But the best way is always typing the prompt and letting us run! We will still utilize everything as mere inspiration. We will never scam our clients or others by replicating, plagiarizing, or committing any art theft. Every piece, even matching, is 💯 custom to each client. 🙏
💉The Process:
🎨 In creation, we draw everything the week or day of, project depending. Structured subjects that require more specific symmetry or prolonged thought processes are designed usually the Tuesday before appointments. This is also our main admin day for client correspondence, the best day to reach out. The majority of our projects are now done freehanded directly onto the area as part of your session. We will never make anything permanent until it's perfect, so we allot ample time to tweak any minor details.
🎨 Tattooing itself is only the chief part of the process. We pace appointments for the comfort of both artist and client in easy flat rates so breaks can be taken without worry. We provide light snacks and drinks to get you through but also recommend you bring your favorites! We also pace the appointment socially as needed for more talkative or quiet times, so small entertainment may be beneficial to you too. Let your artist know the environment you prefer and we'll work to accommodate everyone involved. That being said, we do request that only a guest or two accompany you to keep the space limited in chaos. Flash days get a little crazier but we have a spacious waiting space!
🎨 After your new ink has been applied your artist may pose you for photos to add to their portfolio. We like to get everyone positioned naturally in front of a blank background, usually the wall, and capture our work as closely as possible, showcasing the tattoo itself. This displays the work in the best light, without too much glare or visual distraction. Your artist may not take or post photos if the commission is outside of their body of work or the photos don't do it justice. They may ask for healed photos to show the longevity of their work.
🙌 Aftercare:
🙏 Speaking of longevity, the best thing you can do is care properly for your new tattoo! Your artist will go over aftercare each time and we will frequently post tips to remind, but here is the general go to:
💉 Your art is an open wound! Remember that the entire world, even the air, is dirty and a chance for infection/fallout. Only handle your tattoo and the surrounding area when cleaning and moisturizing. Do not moisturize without first cleaning as this can harbor bacteria between the layers and contaminate aftercare products. Don't poke, pick, itch, or touch even around the tattoo without washing your hands first. Use non scented, antibacterial soap and warm water, ideally at the end of your shower routine, to cleanse the placement 3-4 times a day, for around 10 days. Avoid shaving, scrubbing, covering, and abrasive clothing for 2 weeks. Your artist will cover it to get you home, but the wrapping shouldn't be kept on more than an hour or two.
💉 When washing do so only with your fingertips, not cloth or loofahs, and never nails. Wash your hands, wash the tattoo, wash your hands again as not to transfer tattoo fluids/bacteria elsewhere.
💉 Pat it dry with a clean paper towel, a roll that isnt for communal use and not stored anywhere unlcean. You wouldn't want to use the ones under your kitchen sink or that your cat brushes against on the counter! Do not use your body towel or anything with fibers.
💉 Apply a very little amount of aquaphor or non scented gently moisturizer, rubbing it in completely. You generally want to use 1/10th the size of your tattoo or a "chapstick thin amount" you never want your tattoo shiny or smothered and you want to work the ointment in like lotion to ensure it saturates the layers. Never double dip into product containers, instead predispense the amount onto the back of your opposite hand.
💉Wash hands AGAIN after handling your tattoo! If you must cover the area with clothing it is best to gently put something clean and conforming, like leggings, over the tattoo once you've done aftercare or something loose and not constricting, like baggy sweatpants. You don't want rough jeans or other textures constantly rubbing it. It's also a good idea to wash your bedding and avoid strenuous exercise, working out or otherwise sweating for the first 3-7 days.
💉 Do not go swimming, submerging, or suntanning until your tattoo is full healed (2-3 weeks) and apply sunscreen if you'll be in the sun an extended amount of time.
Your tattoos' permanence depends partly on how well you preserve it. It can seem tedious and limiting, especially in the cases of high movement placements like hands that you may have to keep still, but a few weeks of care is worth a lifetime of expression! 🙏
Here tattooing, and art in general, is a beautiful ancient collaborative relationship! We take into account the clients' experience and the artist's creation equally to craft the best outcome for all! We want you to walk away with not only what you wanted, but you wished you thought you wanted. 🤗 We hope this helps get you there and are always happy to further educate! Thanks for reading!
