The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County features exhibits, programs, and events that highlight the history and heritage of our region.

The Museums engage the public with the excitement of discovery, inspire people with new perspectives on the past, and illuminate the relevance of history in our lives today. We strive to inspire all people to make history a part of their lives by presenting exhibits, educational programs and public events that bring history alive; collecting materials that reveal stories of the Pennyroyal area and its people; educating students of all ages; encouraging the heritage activities of others; and fostering a sense of identity and community.

Spooky season is upon us, and so too is Kentucky's Tree Week! 🌲

Saturday, Oct. 17, the museum is collaborating with Christian County Master Gardeners for a Tree Week Tour of Hopkinsville's trees and tombstones in the beautiful Riverside Cemetery!

Tickets are $10 per person and FREE for Museum Members. Purchase tickets online through Zeffy or in person at the Pennyroyal Area Museum.

Throughout the next week, you'll hear different poems from different women in the Hopkinsville community, reading hooks' words aloud among her own personal belongings and keepsakes in the Pennyroyal Area Museum's bell hooks Legacy Room.

Happy birthday to Hopkinsville's literary giant, bell hooks!

To commemorate her birthday, Visit Hopkinsville unveiled a beautiful new mural featuring some of Kentucky's most renowned figures - including bell! Created by Kentucky artist Lacy Hale for the Kentucky State Fair, the mural will remain at Visit Hopkinsville to celebrate the lasting legacy of the feminist icon.

But the bell hooks celebrations aren't over yet! Be sure to catch Guardian Spirit - The Words of bell hooks at the Alhambra Theatre Friday, Oct. 16, where singer Martha Redbone will set the poetry of Appalachian Elegy to a fusion of blues, gospel, soul, and funk music.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

We are hosting our annual museum gala TODAY, Friday, Sept. 18, which will involve the all-day closure of Liberty Street between East 9th and East 10th Streets starting at 8 a.m. until approximately 10 p.m.

East 9th Street between Liberty and S. Virginia streets will also be closed this evening from 5-7 p.m.

The museum will be closed to the public both today and Saturday, Sept. 19 for the gala and subsequent recovery! We will return to normal hours next week!

We are hard at work here at the museum setting up for our Gant Gaither gala on Friday!

We've been moving and switching out exhibits all week to feature the vibrant life and beautiful artwork of Gant. Just look at those hippopotamus candlesticks!

Stop by the museum to see what we've pulled from our Gant Gaither collection - or better yet, come to the gala Friday evening!
