We are so excited to announce our title sponsor for the museum's annual gala this year - Planters Bank!

We are so appreciative of Planters' support in helping to make our upcoming Gant Gaither gala a wonderful evening for all!

Check out this awesome Planters ad from a 1996 Kentucky New Era issue. Planters Bank opened 30 years ago this month, and with it began their legacy of generosity in Hopkinsville. We are so grateful for everything Planters does for the museum and our community!

We had the pleasure of welcoming two students from Murray State University's history department on Saturday as they researched the history of death for their senior seminar!

This studious pair got to see some death-related artifacts in our collection, view our basement coffins, and help clean tombstones at the cemetery on Vine Street! Thank you to Murray State for sending your students our way!

It's less than two weeks until our Palm Springs Supper Club! This extra-special installment is part of our Gant Gaither programming leading up to the museum's annual gala.

Thursday, Sept. 10, Alissa and returning chef Matthew Brown will draw from this 1980s cookbook, filled with recipes submitted by Palm Springs celebrities and the type of Californians who would have been in Gant Gaither's scene.

Tickets are still available - we hope to see you there!

Did you know Dolly Parton came to Hopkinsville in 1973?

Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner performed a free concert at the Western Kentucky State Fair’s Grandstand Show July 31, 1973.

According to the Kentucky New Era, the concert brought in a crowd of around 5,000, and by the time Dolly stepped onstage, “even standing room was in strong demand.”

The New Era reported, “The threat of rain and muddy ground apparently did little to discourage the overflow crowd which flocked to the grandstand area to see and hear Porter and ‘Miss Dolly,’” who complained in a good-natured way of having mud on her guitar!

Dolly Parton was one of a kind, and we will miss her dearly!
