Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame We want to recognize athletes, coaches, teams and individuals who have made a significant contribution to HHS athletics. It is the mission of the Hopkins High School Athletic Hall of Fame to formally recognize athletes, teams, coaches and individuals who have made significant contributions to HHS athletics.

2020 Inductee: Brandie (Merren) Sisson

Graduating in 2009 Brandie was a 4 year varsity basketball and volleyball player for the Lady Vikings that would leave HHS with her name on the volleyball leader board in nearly every statistical category. She currently holds school records for career assists (3,605), career aces (495), career digs (1, 606), assists in a match (56), and assists in a season (1,148) and is third all-time in the Michigan record books for career aces. Brandie was a 4-time volleyball All-Conference, All-County, All-Region, and MVP winner from 2005-2008 as well as a 2-time Class B All-State athlete in 2008 and 2009. She went on to play collegiately at Western Michigan University in 2009 and Ferris State University from 2011-2013 where she helped the Bulldogs to an NCAA D2 Elite appearance. As a college athlete, Brandie earned All-GLIAC Honors in 2012 and 2013, GLIAC Libero of the Year Honors (2012, 2013), and All-GLIAC Academic Honors (2012, 2013). Topping it off, she was named to the All-American NCAA Division II Midwest Region team in 2012 and 2013.

2020 Inductee: Don Walker

Graduating in the class of 1968, Don was an outstanding all-around athlete for the Vikings. An 11-time letterman and 2-time MVP, he would earn All-Conference recognition 6 times – twice each in football, basketball, and baseball. On the basketball court, he was recognized as an All-State Honorable Mention player and a member of the All-Area team in both 1967 and 1968, he would go on to set the HHS basketball career scoring record at 1,161 points and the baseball single season RBI record at 33. Mr. Walker would return to the game as a certified MHSAA official and has appeared in five Michigan High School State Finals as a football and baseball umpire. His contributions to athletics continues as he is currently and active MHSAA official.

2020 Inductee: Danny Miller

A 1965 graduate of Hopkins High School, Danny left HHS a well-decorated athlete with 14 varsity letters – 4 in football, 4 in baseball, 4 in track, and 2 in basketball. He would continue his football career at Grand Rapids Community College, playing for two years in 1965 and 1966 before transferring to play at the Division I level with Eastern Michigan University. After hanging up his playing shoes, Danny would return to athletics and solidify his legacy in the coaching ranks. In 1975, he would be named the Class D Michigan Wrestling Coach of the Year then moved to Colorado where he would lead the Fruita Monument High School to 5 Colorado State Championships. Danny coach football, baseball, and wrestling at Fruita Monument for 26 years ending his tenure in 2002. In 2003, a new weight lifting facility was built at the high school and was named the Dan Miller Fitness Center.

2020 Hall of Fame Inductee: William 'Bill' Weick

A 1957 graduate of HHS, Bill earned 12 varsity letters – 4 in football, 4 in basketball, and 4 in baseball, receiving All-Conference accolades in both football and basketball. Bill went on to play football and baseball at Central Michigan University then returned to his hometown to continue his legacy and impact on the Hopkins community. He would help co-found Hopkins youth football and little league programs, ensuring a steady stream of athletes funneling into Hopkins Athletics year in and year out. Bill’s legacy does not stop with the athletic arena, he also leaves a lasting impact in the academic arena, contributing an annual scholarship to HHS students pursuing careers in business or education.

Congratulations to Mick Francis and Katie (Pickette) Slagh as the 2018-2019 inductees into the Hopkins Athletics Hall of Fame!

Michael 'Mick' Francis - A longtime coach and teacher at HHS, Francis was chosen as an inductee into the Hopkins Hall of Fame for the tremendous amount of time he has given to HHS students, athletes, and athletic programs. Mick coached many successful teams (specifically in softball and football). After retiring, Mick continues to support HHS athletics helping on the sidelines for the football program.

Katie Pickette - An amazing hurdler, Katie set state records in her respective division in both the 100M hurdles and the 300M hurdles. Katie went on to compete as a heptathlete for Western Michigan University. In 2005, she became WMU's first ever MAC champion in the heptathlon.

Join us February 8th between the boys & girls varsity basketball games in the High School Gym for the formal induction of Mick and Katie into our Hall of Fame. (around 7 pm)

The second class of inductees into the Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame were honored September 15th at the half time of the football game and at a formal ceremony on September 16th. This year Tracy (Hazen) Iciek, Rex Weaver, Dennis and Judy Kennedy, and the varsity football team from the 1999 season were honored. The committee is seeking nominations for future classes and also has two committee vacancies to fill. If you are interested in joining the Hall of Fame committee, please submit a letter of interest to Athletic Director Adam Valk.

​The plaques for the first members inducted into the Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame are now on display outside the gymnasium at Hopkins High School. The wall displays the awards for the ten individuals inducted last fall and will continue to grow as new members join the Hall of Fame each fall. Please stop in and check them out!
