Visiting Hood River, also known as the Windsurfing Capital of the World? Stop by The History Museum of Hood River County to learn more about the history of water sports in the Gorge and to pick up some souvenirs along the way!

From vintage 1980s windsurfing posters to magnets and modern art prints, we have something for everyone!

The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Just stopping in to check out the Museum Shop? No admission fee required!

The History Museum is excited to partner with the Columbia Gorge Museum for their Lacing Communities Together project!

On Monday, August 24, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the History Museum will be hosting our final lacemaking workshop with Columbia Gorge Museum Executive Director Lou Palermo and lace artist Maggie Hensel-Brown. The project is an initiative to engage curiosity and educate about the heritage and art form of lacemaking.

Attendees will be instructed on the basics of lacemaking and will craft a lace triangle. The event is free, and most materials are available on site. This will be the last opportunity to make lace at the History Museum. We hope you will join us!

Interested in local birdlife? Join the History Museum on Friday, August 14, from 9:00 to 10:00 am, for our last Bird Walk of the season, where we explore the diverse array of birds that are found near the museum grounds.

Learn about the unique history, ecology, and geology of the confluence of the Hood and Columbia Rivers. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on our website. We hope to see you there!

A reminder that our final Canvas of Calm event with Emily Goodwin Martin is happening Thursday, August 6, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and tickets are going fast!

Join us at the History Museum for a morning of nature awareness, mindfulness, and watercolor painting. Participants will be led in a guided nature meditation session followed by a watercolor painting activity.

Each participant will receive an outline of the landscape by local artist Marcella Kriebel, along with watercolor supplies and easy instructions to create their own painting. All materials are provided, including the Gorge Art Box. You’ll take home your hand-painted souvenir and the remaining contents of the art box to continue your creative journey.

Your experience also includes entry to the History Museum. No painting experience is required, just a love for nature and creativity. Tickets are $45 and are available for purchase online or in person at the History Museum. We hope to see you there!

Lacemaking kits are now available at the History Museum! Stop by, pick up your kit, and join us in participating in the Lacing Communities Together project with the Columbia Gorge Museum and lace artist Maggie Hensel-Brown.

Join us for in-person workshops at the History Museum on Monday, July 27, between 11:00am and 4:00pm and on August 24, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. We hope to see you there!

Stop by the History Museum and join us with Lou Palmero, executive director of the Columbia Gorge Museum, for a lacemaking workshop during our open hours on Monday, July 27, between 11:00am and 4:00pm.

Craft a lace triangle for the Columbia Gorge Museum’s Lacing Communities Together project. The triangles will be joined together and kept as part of the Columbia Gorge Museum’s permanent collection.

Lacing Communities Together with lace artist Maggie Hensel-Brown is an initiative to engage curiosity and educate about the heritage art form of lacemaking.
