The photo on the left is a Cigar Jar - Tantalus Set. The pattern is VICTOR.
What is a Tantalus set? A Tantalus set is a luxury, lockable display case that holds one or more decanters. Originating in 19th-century England, the set allows the owner to proudly display valuables (usually ci**rs or liquor) while securing the contents and keeping them out of the hands of unauthorized guests or servants.
The line drawing is of a cheese cover and plate. The drawing is a perfect representation of the real piece with the exception of a more decorated lid for the cigar jar.
One must wonder which was more valuable then, the ci**rs or the jar? ...and which would be more valuable now?!

✨NEW VENDOR✨Handmade in New Jersey, designer, creator, and maker, Melissa Williams, forms each piece of glass by melting down post consumer glass bottles. Every piece created has an extraordinary energy and spirit unique to itself and is often mistaken for sea glass or stone. Each item comes tagged to share the wonderful information that it is a recycled and handcrafted product as well as telling what bottle each color came from.

Reality vs. a drawing!
The photo on the left is a stemware goblet. The pattern is STRAWBERRY DIAMOND and FAN with a monogram. While the fan is very noticeable on the tankard jug to the right, the monogram sits where the fan would be on the goblet. Also notice the detail cuts in the stem of the goblet, not all stemware has this detailing.
Imagine toasting with a goblet of this caliber!

The goblet was a gift of the William J. Adams Family in memory of Mary E. Rose

Not a lost art! Feel fancy when penning that note.

Let's compare what a pattern looks like in a real piece from the museum vs. a drawing from the Dorflinger Line Drawings book.
The top photo is of three glasses, (left to right) sherry, wine, champagne. The pattern is COLONIAL. It appears as a rather simple and elegant pattern. However, when you see the line drawing of an oil jar, the pattern appears much more intricate. Only the upper design of the oil is used in the glasses as there would not be room for the intricate cuttings as in the oil.
This is one example of how identifying a pattern can be difficult.
The glasses were a gift from Mr. & Mrs. David Dorflinger.
