We have another photo to identify. This one has flowers and are labeled GEROGE OUR PRESIDENT - GRL. The photo is labeled with the same on the back. This could be our town, Lima, Rush, Bloomfield. The faded photo at the top ofd the flowers has been enlarged. GRL could be his initials but could also be the initials of the organization.

Thank you.

With the parcel occupied by Critic’s Restaurant in our local news, let’s look back at what once stood in that area.

Going way back, the Cottage Hotel occupied the portion nearest the street. It was the tallest building on the block, as you can see in the aerial photo.

The hotel eventually became an Oldsmobile dealership and service station. A building directly behind the hotel was used for servicing cars, essentially where Critic’s stands today. A small parking area between the hotel and garage was likely used for vehicles awaiting service.

Behind the garage stood the “red barn,” Mantegna Furniture, on the site where the library now sits.

The hotel and garage were later torn down, and the Family Restaurant was eventually built. That restaurant later became Critic’s.

So, from the street to the rear of the parcel, the site once contained three buildings and a parking area. The hotel and garage were removed first, followed by construction of the restaurant. Later, the red barn was demolished and replaced by the library.

In some ways, the site has come full circle, with another tall building now wanting to occupy part of the space where the Cottage Hotel once stood.
