Hondo Art League

Hondo Art League Throughout the year, classes are offered in watercolor, mosaics, oils, acrylic, drawing, pastels, colored pencil, pen and ink, clay, and collage.

The Hondo Art League(HAL) was founded in 1972 by a group who needed a warm and open environment in which to meet, pursue their art interests, and to offer professional instruction in many art forms to its members and to those in the community who were interested in the visual arts. The founders of HAL realized the importance of fostering the arts and offering art-related opportunities to everyone

in the community, regardless of age or talent level. To find out about current classes and other HAL activities, read “Paints and Brushes,” the informational column that can be found in the Hondo Anvil-Herald. New members are always welcomed, and membership is not required in order to take classes at HAL.The historic building, built in 1942, was a WWII barrack which housed young airmen who trained at the base. The HAL members periodically refurbish the building, most recently in 2009. The building now sports fresh interior paint AND a hot pink door and is abuzz with the comings and goings of artists-at-work and classes for both children and adults

Applications will be taken April 11- May 15. Camp is first come first serve, so get them in early.

Just wanted to let you know the Hondo Art League Scholarship application is available at hondoartleague.com. This year we are giving away one $1000 scholarship to a graduating Hondo High School student. Deadline for applications is March 8, 2023.

Victorian Ornament Workshop

Rachel Alvarez will be teaching a Victorian Ornament Wirkshop on Sunday, November 13 at 1:30 pm. Join us for a fun Christmas craft. Rachel will provide the ornament, and embellishments such as ribbon, lace appliques. If you want to personalize your project, you are welcome to bring scraps of lace, ribbon, beads etc. You may also bring a copy of a photo of a loved one or an image from a magazine, no larger than 2 1/2 inches (your home printer or Walmart will make you a copy). Cost of class is $15 for Hondo Art League Members and $20 for non members.
