For this painting I used a bottle of ink and dip/nib pen for the ink work, and then watercolored over that. This combination of mediums is called line and wash. I really like this style and had a lot of fun with this one.

I enjoyed trying out a different style of going with only color and no line work on this one. Thanks, Kalleen! I miss throwing the stick for Ellie in the backyard of this house.

As you can see, this one's not a house painting, and that's because I'd like to start branching out to other subjects. If you would like, I can paint a photo you would like even if it's not a house. (But if your photo has people in it I may have to decline because I'm not the best with faces yet)

A friend wanted sea turtles with an American Indian spin on it. So I tried putting Native American looking patterns all over them, including a face on the shell of each one. (Its a little tough to see the face on the biggest one, but if you look closely it's there)

I think my favorite one is the turtle in the bottom left with the yellow highlight on it's shell.

I really enjoyed painting the interesting background. I was originally using waterbased markers that I activated with my waterbrush, but I'm glad I switched to regular paint though.

(You may notice that the photo shown is slightly edited, and I did this to try and match the colors in real life more accurately).

This client wanted orcas in the water in front of their house, (it's the Puget sound) and I ended up enjoying painting the underwater portion of the killer whales the most. I also like the reflections of the wooden gate in the water. To get the highlights in the water, I staged to brush back and forth to lift up the paint, then dabbed it out with a napkin. The Trees in the back were deviant from the photo, but I enjoyed drawing different patterns.

For this one the client requested the weather to be fall, so here's another option besides the snowy version. As you can see, the painting and photo I printed off are very different. Remember, there's more than one way to customize your painting. I can give you a cloudy sky, a sunset, or plain blue sky. I can add foliage where you wish, or even animals. On a project I'm working on currently, the client requested for orcas swimming near the house. I can completely change the background and transport your home to a mountain top or tropical rainforest. If you have a specific landscape you'd like the background to be, sending a reference photo would be useful.

On this one, I outlined the silhouette of the house with a black brush or calligraphy pen. Of course the graidiations on the street, sky and grass were achieved by simply wetting the paper before adding color.

Here's my most recent painting. On this one I ended up coloring all of the snow and not leaving any white. I got a fuzzy look with the background trees by wetting the paper first. I also added in those trees on the sides. If you would like me to add anything specific into your painting, just ask. And for a snowy scene like this one, I'll usually add Christmas lights or a wreath if I think it fits.

Hello, my name is Vaughn Davis. I do custom watercolor paintings of people's houses. If you would like to buy a painting of your house, you can send a photo, or if you're local, I can come and take one myself. If you take your own, be sure to do it from the vantage point of which you would like it to be drawn. If you buy one, you will be given the option to have it featured in the gallery.

Lately I have been painting a Christmas edition of houses as if it was a beautiful snowy night. These versions have lots of pretty blues and purples.
My standard rate for a painting this size framed (10x13in) is $40.00, and $35.00 not framed (9x12in).

Shipping rates are $8.50 NOT framed, and $15.50 with a float frame as shown.
PayPal email address: [email protected].
I can also accept payments through Zelle.
