The Hollandale Harvest Festival will be held Sep 11 and 12, 2026. This year the Heritage Huis is sponsoring a tour of the four churches in town. Each church will provide their own tour guide. There will be no bus to transport visitors. Each interested person will drive from one church to another at will. The schedule is as follows: Saturday, Sep 12. 9:30 AM--Congregational Church; 10 AM--Christian Reformed Church; 10:30 AM--St. Paul's Lutheran Church; 11 AM--Family of Faith (Reformed Church). It is sure to be an interesting experience!

The funeral service for Ted Spain will be held at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea, Mn on Saturday, September 5. Visitation begins at 11:30 AM and the service begins at 1 PM. Full obituary at Bonnerup website.

It is with sadness that we post that yesterday our oldest living resident of Hollandale, Ted Spain, passed away. Born in 1923, he and his family moved to the Hollandale Colony in 1926 and started farming southeast of Maple Island. That same year they were charter members of the establishment of the Congregational Church of Hollandale and in 1927, his Dad and others built the church building which is still used today for worship and fellowship. The changes he experienced, witnessed and lived, not only in the Hollandale area, but in the U.S., the World and in life in general were almost unimaginable. His knowledge and wisdom, his kindness and sincerity, was instantly seen and appreciated by everyone he met. He was a genuine treasure and a valued part of my heritage, of our Heritage!. We will miss you, Ted.

This was one of the first "bungalows" built in Hollandale in the early 1920s and was located at 107 Netherland Ave East. I don't know who were the first residents but the Congregational Church bought it in (I believe) 1954 or 1955 and used ir as the parsonage.

Who remembers Maple Island's "Fountain of Youth"? I have just been informed that the flowing well was across from Mary and "Steve" Orgis' store, not Earls. Earl was their son.
