120 pound bags! Lots of hard work! The second photo is an announcement by the Quevli Farms Company to sell land just south of Hollandale Junction, the junction in the railroad between Austin and Albert Lea leading to Hollandale. Nels Quevli, an attorney, registered pharmacist, and author from Mason City, Iowa operated land and financial enterprises through Quevli Farms Inc in the early 1930s. He tried to copy what George Payne did in the Hollandale Colony by offering 20 acre parcels with buildings but because of the depression in 1929 and reduced demand and low prices the company became insolvent. The Petran family acquired most of the land and by 1935 it was quite profitable.

The Hollandale Harvest Festival will be held Sep 11 and 12, 2026. This year the Heritage Huis is sponsoring a tour of the four churches in town. Each church will provide their own tour guide. There will be no bus to transport visitors. Each interested person will drive from one church to another at will. The schedule is as follows: Saturday, Sep 12. 9:30 AM--Congregational Church; 10 AM--Christian Reformed Church; 10:30 AM--St. Paul's Lutheran Church; 11 AM--Family of Faith (Reformed Church). It is sure to be an interesting experience!

The funeral service for Ted Spain will be held at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea, Mn on Saturday, September 5. Visitation begins at 11:30 AM and the service begins at 1 PM. Full obituary at Bonnerup website.
