🌿 Introducing the River Walk at the Homestead

The Hinsdale Historical Society is excited to welcome the community to a new addition at the Col. Ebenezer Hinsdale Homestead — our River Walk and Story Book Trail.

The approximately one-mile walk winds through the woodland and along the Connecticut River, offering a different way to experience the Homestead and the natural landscape that surrounds it. Along the trail, you’ll find pages from Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner, with illustrations by Christopher Silas Neal. The storybook trail is a fun addition for families and a chance for younger visitors to learn about the plants and animals that make their home along the water.

There is plenty to see as you make your way along the trail. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, osprey, herons, ducks, Canada geese and other birds, as well as beavers, muskrats and the occasional glimpse of fish in the river. In the woodland, you may spot squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits and many different varieties of birds. See how many you can find along the way!

The River Walk also connects with the larger regional rail trail system and is open to the public every day. There is no check-in required — just come and enjoy the property.

As we continue to finesse and improve the pathway, please be mindful that there may still be some small stumps, uneven areas and other natural obstacles along the trail.

🚜 Another Engine Show in the Books🚜

Despite Mother Nature deciding to end things a little early on Saturday afternoon, we had a great weekend at the Homestead.

The grounds were filled with antique engines and tractors, visitors spent time talking with exhibitors, and many took advantage of the house tours throughout the day. Lyndsay kept everyone well fed, and it was nice to see so many people stopping by.

Thank you to everyone who brought equipment to display, volunteered their time, helped behind the scenes, and came out to spend part of the weekend with us. We appreciate your support and look forward to doing it all again next year.

🚜 The Annual Antique Engine Show Returns! 🚜

Join us for one of the Hinsdale Historical Society's favorite summer traditions as the Annual Antique Engine Show returns on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, at the Colonel Ebenezer Hinsdale House.

Spend the day exploring antique engines and tractors, visiting with exhibitors, and enjoying a weekend dedicated to preserving and celebrating the machinery that helped shape our agricultural and industrial history.

🎟️ Admission is free.

☀️ Welcome to Our Summer Newsletter! ☀️

As summer settles in at the Colonel Ebenezer Hinsdale House, we're excited to share the latest news and happenings from the Hinsdale Historical Society. The past few months have been busy and productive, and we have much to celebrate.

In this edition, you'll find updates on several grants that will help support our ongoing preservation efforts, recaps of recent events that brought our community together, and a look ahead at the exciting programs and activities still to come this season.

We're also pleased to introduce the new River Walk, which offers visitors another opportunity to explore the history and natural beauty of the Homestead property and its connection to the Connecticut River.

We are excited to share this press release about our recent grant application approval to replace the roof of South To***co Barn here at the homestead! Thank you to the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance and the 1772 Foundation for their support!

"The N.H. Preservation Alliance Grant Program, in partnership with The 1772 Foundation, provides essential support that enables the Hinsdale Historical Society to preserve and maintain an important part of our community’s heritage for future generations,” John Smith, president of the Hinsdale Historical Society said in a news release. “Continued investment in the maintenance and protection of this historic property ensures that its cultural, educational, and historical value will remain accessible and meaningful to residents and visitors alike.”

🚜☀️ Tractor Parade Weekend Recap ☀️🚜

We were happy to welcome the Annual Tractor Parade back to the Colonel Ebenezer Hinsdale House this weekend for its lunchtime stop. It was great to see so many tractors lined up on the property and so many people gathered together enjoying the afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who participated, helped organize the event, contributed to lunch for the participants and made the day such a success. We always enjoy being part of this community tradition and appreciate all the work that goes into making it happen each year.
