FREE ADMISSION ‼️

Did you know that students at the Burwell School used to stargaze? As a part of their astronomy lessons, the girls would use the observatory and telescope at the Eagle Lodge on King Street (according to local historian and BSHS veteran Hilda Winecoff)

Although the stars were indeed beautiful, they would have meant something quite different to a servant or slave laboring on the Burwell property. Stars, particularly the North Star, were a beacon of freedom—a freedom that was often beyond reach.

Come chase the stars ✨ August 28 at Burwell School Historic Site
