The Historic Hewitt Public school is the home of the Hewitt Museum. In 1953 the Hewitt School district consolidated with near by Bertha.

The Hewitt Museum was created to preserve & promote the history of the City of Hewitt, MN along with the Stowe Prairie Township. From 1911 to 1952 the Hewitt School served Hewitt, MN as their community's only educational institution. From 1953-1964 the school housed first to sixth grades. From 1964-1980 fifth & sixth grades were held at the school. In 1981, The Hewitt Historical Society adopted the school as a local history Museum. The Hewitt School was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 2006. The city of Hewitt, along with the Hewitt Historical Society were awarded a Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant on January 21st, 2010 in the amount of $156,369. This page will track the restoration process of the school's roof as the project unfolds starting in April and ending by September 2010.

Well, the 2026 season is officially over. We would like to thank all the visitors, helpers, workers and followers of this page for your support and dedication this season! We will keep posting over the next few months and open again in the spring of 2027. Thank you all and take good care 😊😊😊

Yes! The Museum WILL be open this Sunday, October 11 from 1 to 3! The warm temps have helped extend our season and we hope you will drop by and do some exploring 😃😃😃. Wanted to give a special shoutout to our Hewitt Fire Department for their tireless and selfless commitment to helping keep our community safe. We posted this picture some months back, but thought we would share it again - thanks again to all our firefighters!

The weather seems to be cooperating, so the Museum will be open Sunday, October 4 from 1 to 3 😃😃😃. Come learn about some of our history and see some amazing displays…a big thank you to Matthew Nelson for putting up the panels painted by Robert Meszaros! These can be seen and appreciated in the Military and More room (previously Mrs. Hernwall’s room. Much more to see when you stop in!!!

The museum is still open for the season this Sunday, September 27, from 1 to 3 😃😃😃. If the weather stays warm enough, we may keep it open the first 2 Sundays in October 🤞. While you’re out and about, stop in for a look-see…Hewitt Commemorative plates are still available for FREE (Xmas gift?)…Pickle Days shirts and buttons, Wandermore in Minnesota book also still available. Hope to see you Sunday!

Hewitt Public School Museum is still open for the season! Come for a visit this Sunday, September 6, from 1 to 3…you never know what you may find. Pictured here is a quilt by Mabel Kassube featuring a list of the names of her nephews who served in WWII, all who returned home safely. Also pictured are examples of the cool things you can see up close at the museum!!! 😃😃😃

On July 12, Ron Stark and his wife stopped by the museum. His dad, Don, was born in Hewitt and attended school here for 3-4 years. Growing up, Ron remembers the family (including brother Rodney) taking trips to local town for sightseeing, fishing and visiting relatives. When in Hewitt, the family would stay with cousins Carl and Florence Hallstrom and their children. Here are photos of Ron’s July 12 visit to the museum. The other photo is of his grandpa George Stark with his 8th grade graduating class in 1912. Thanks so much, Ron!!! 😃😃😃
