Hewitt Public School Museum

The Historic Hewitt Public school is the home of the Hewitt Museum. In 1953 the Hewitt School district consolidated with near by Bertha.

The Hewitt Museum was created to preserve & promote the history of the City of Hewitt, MN along with the Stowe Prairie Township. From 1911 to 1952 the Hewitt School served Hewitt, MN as their community's only educational institution. From 1953-1964 the school housed first to sixth grades. From 1964-1980 fifth & sixth grades were held at the school. In 1981, The Hewitt Historical Society adopted th

e school as a local history Museum. The Hewitt School was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 2006. The city of Hewitt, along with the Hewitt Historical Society were awarded a Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant on January 21st, 2010 in the amount of $156,369. This page will track the restoration process of the school's roof as the project unfolds starting in April and ending by September 2010.

Hewitt Public School Museum is still open for the season! Come for a visit this Sunday, September 6, from 1 to 3…you never know what you may find. Pictured here is a quilt by Mabel Kassube featuring a list of the names of her nephews who served in WWII, all who returned home safely. Also pictured are examples of the cool things you can see up close at the museum!!! 😃😃😃

On July 12, Ron Stark and his wife stopped by the museum. His dad, Don, was born in Hewitt and attended school here for 3-4 years. Growing up, Ron remembers the family (including brother Rodney) taking trips to local town for sightseeing, fishing and visiting relatives. When in Hewitt, the family would stay with cousins Carl and Florence Hallstrom and their children. Here are photos of Ron’s July 12 visit to the museum. The other photo is of his grandpa George Stark with his 8th grade graduating class in 1912. Thanks so much, Ron!!! 😃😃😃

It’s almost the weekend! Make it a great one by stopping by the museum on Sunday from 1 to 3 in the afternoon 😃. Pictured below - a great group from Productive Alternatives in Alexandria recently toured the museum and topped the day off with a photo in the Big Blue Chair! Also, signature quilts from the 1920’s are now on display, as well as this unearthed First Aid box. We have 2026 Pickle Fest t-shirts for sale, in addition to Wandermore in Minnesota books!!!

Last Sunday, July 26th, the museum had some special visitors! Robert, Richard and David Satterlie stopped in and while there, had a good visit with Marvel Blaske. Their mom ( Myrna) taught at the Hewitt School and married their dad (Art) who also taught there. Art went on to become the school superintendent until 1942, when he went off to the war. Robert, Richard and David also donated pictures and other treasures to the museum. Here are some great photos taken during their visit! 😃
