Join us on Sunday, September 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Chocolate Town Square Park for Milton Hershey’s birthday celebration! In 1937, Mr. Hershey’s employees invited him to a birthday party in his honor. More than 6,000 employees and their families gathered at Hershey Sports Arena to celebrate his turning 80! In addition to a 3-foot tall cake lit with 80 electric candles, employees presented Mr. Hershey with a beautiful gold and diamond ring featuring the Baby in the Cocoa Pod, Hershey’s trademark at that time. We were hoping that one of our moths would emerge in time for National Moth Week, and it did - - finally! National Moth Week, held this week, celebrates the beauty, diversity, and ecological importance of moths. We’re celebrating National Moth Week by featuring this gorgeous moth - - a Madagascan moon moth. Sometimes called a comet moth, this creature is native to the rain forests of - - you guessed it, - - Madagascar. Isn’t it gorgeous? We think its tailed wings and distinctive markings make it a breathtakingly beautiful moth species!

Approximately 200 students visited the Museum and Hershey Gardens this week as part of Millersville University's Migrant Education Program. The program assists migrant students and their families in overcoming the barriers created by their move into a new school district and community. Through the program, individuals who have a migrant lifestyle have a better chance at achieving the same high standards as those students who have not experienced an interruption in their education.

After exploring the Museum Experience, the students were given a quick lesson on how chocolate is made - - then they made their own chocolate treat!

Millersville University runs the largest higher-education Migrant Education Program (MEP) in Pennsylvania, offering critical supplemental instruction, summer camps, and support services for children of agricultural and seasonal workers.
