To help promote his new car model to a post-war public, Preston entered a race team into the 1946 Indianapolis 500 using a six-cylinder rear-engine race car built by Harry Miller. In this image, George Barringer, driver, is seated in the Tucker Torpedo Special. Preston Tucker again entered a team into the 1947 Indianapolis 500 the following year.

Our archivist recently processed a photograph of a Woodie Wagon, 1946 Ford, with "Tucker 48 Special Race Team" painted on driver's door. In 1947, Preston entered a rear-engine car into the Indy 500 to help promote his Tucker ’48. While the individual sitting in the driver’s seat is not confirmed, the photo is marked on back in ink Jim Stearns. James D. Stearns became the Treasurer and Comptroller for the Tucker Corporation, leading a comprehensive cost control program.

Tucker #1029, a 1948 Tucker 48, chassis #29, won First Place in the Post-War Touring class at the 2026 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance earlier this month. Congratulations to Matthew Katz and Caretaker's Collection, Mark Lieberman and Nostalgic Motoring Ltd., Rob Ida and IDA Automotive, and Mike and Sean Tucker at Preston Tucker LLC. Your combined efforts and talents brought Preston Tucker’s personal car, widely considered one of the most historically significant of the 51 Tucker 48 models built, back to life in an amazing way.

Leaving the factory finished in Viola Grey, chassis #1029 was Preston Tucker's personal car, but it was immediately employed as the marque's promotional asset. It was showcased in the company’s original promotional film, "The Tucker: The Man and the Car." In October 1948, the vehicle was taken to Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with six other 48s. It endured high-speed endurance testing that proved valuable in ongoing chassis development.

How close would you have lived to your nearest Tucker dealership? The Tucker Corporation signed agreements with over 1,600 franchise owners across the United States to distribute and sell the Tucker ’48 fastback sedan. Many of these franchise owners were independent garages and automobile dealers located in small towns. Blair McPhail, #3 Region Sales Manager and Fred Rockelman look at a growing dealer map of the United States as the network was being established.

This is an original 1949 Membership Card for the National Tucker Distributor & Dealer Association, Inc. The non-profit Corporation was located at 3527 N. Western Ave, Chicago, IL. This card belonged to Hadsall Motors, a dealership located in Denver, Colorado, and operated by Guy Hadsall.
