To whomever may be interested,
A posting was recently placed on Hemet Scoop FB page that essentially alleges that I somehow should know who is behind some mailers funded by a Political Action Committee (PAC) that are critical of my opponent, and that I should denounce them as maliciously false. The posting further “demands” that if I do not do as they suggest, I should withdraw from the Hemet City Council campaign. So, I replied to the posting, and am sharing my reply here for anyone’s review and comment. Here is what I said:
I just read, with considerable interest, the "Citizen's Voice" document which seeks to tie me with a political action group. By implication, it alleges that I have some knowledge of who is behind this PAC and that I somehow have control over what they do. Let me be perfectly clear, I DO NOT KNOW WHO IS BEHIND THE MAILERS, NOR DO I HAVE ANY ABILITY TO CONTROL WHAT A POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE SAYS OR DOES. If I did have such control, I would have exercised it long ago. I would have also sought to influence another PAC that is distributing incredibly false and misleading literature and signage to promote Measure Y and oppose the City of Hemet sponsored Measure Z. I reiterate, one of my very first comments at my very first committee meeting was that I WILL NOT engage in mud-slinging, or any such form of negative campaigning. I, like most people, detest such tactics. Throughout this campaign period I have endeavored to run a positive, factual and straight forward campaign. I let my personal experiences and activities speak for themselves. My record of community service and involvement in both my former city of Claremont and here in Hemet since moving here in January of 2006 speaks for itself and is easily verifiable. Having only met my opponent at the beginning of this campaign, I have no first-hand knowledge of her or her background. So, I am in no position to know or evaluate the truthfulness of the allegations made in the PAC mailers. If there are allegations made in the PAC mailers about my opponent that are not factually accurate, I would encourage her to refute them by stating or presenting factual evidence that contradicts them and vindicates herself. As the saying goes..."speak truth to power."
