🦌 An Unexpected Northwoods Encounter!

Last evening, while driving back from a commercial shoot, I was fortunate enough to come across an incredible sight near Clam Lake, Wisconsin — two magnificent bull elk sparring!

Of course, all of my good video equipment was packed away in the truck, and there was no time to start digging it out. So, the cell phone had to do the job! 📱🎥 Sometimes the best camera really is the one you have in your hand.

Even with the phone, what an amazing encounter to witness. Seeing these two majestic bulls sizing each other up and locking antlers in the wild is something I won't soon forget.

What makes moments like this even more special is that this was captured practically in my own backyard. I'm beyond blessed to live and work in an area where encounters like this aren't necessarily once-in-a-lifetime experiences — I'm fortunate enough to witness the incredible wildlife of the Northwoods on a fairly regular basis. I don't think I'll ever take that for granted.

And this is just the beginning. The elk rut is right around the corner, and you can count on me being back out there over the next couple of weeks — this time with the real camera gear ready to go! 📸

There's just nothing quite like being in the right place at the right time and getting a front-row seat to moments like this in the wild.

🍷✨ LADIES NIGHT OUT IS TOMORROW! ✨🍷

We are so excited to be hosting a special Ladies Night Out tomorrow, Thursday, August 13th!

Our James Netz Photography Wildlife & Landscape Gallery in Downtown Hayward will be closed from 4pm to 8pm to the public for this private event as we welcome an amazing group of ladies for an evening of fun, relaxation, and great company!

🚚🦆 We're hitting the road to Mercer for Loon Days!

Today we're busy packing up a big portion of our Hayward gallery—including many of our favorite wildlife and landscape fine art prints, along with our collection of handcrafted, nature-inspired gifts—and heading to Mercer, Wisconsin for the annual Loon Days celebration tomorrow!

Last year's show was absolutely amazing, and we're excited to be back again this year with our 10' x 20' booth at Location H1.

Sometimes the best part of this job is completely unexpected.

Just before we kicked off our 15th Anniversary Celebration today at our Hayward gallery, a family walked through the door. They looked familiar, but after photographing so many wonderful people over the years, I couldn't quite place them.

They smiled and asked, "Do you remember us?"

I said, "You look familiar..."

Then they said, "You photographed our wedding in Colorado."

Immediately, it all came rushing back. I remembered them, their beautiful wedding day, and so many of the moments we shared.

Then I asked, "How long ago was that?"

"Fifteen years ago."

Talk about incredible timing.

Here they were, stopping by our gallery on the very day we were celebrating 15 years of James Netz Photography & Video... and it had been 15 years since I photographed their wedding.

The best part? They're no longer just a bride and groom—they're now a family of five with three amazing children, their oldest already 13 years old.

We spent time catching up, sharing memories, laughing about that special day in Colorado, and before they left, we captured one more photograph together.

Moments like this remind me why I chose this profession all those years ago.

Photography isn't just about creating beautiful images. It's about preserving stories, celebrating milestones, and building relationships that can last a lifetime. To be invited into one of the most important days of someone's life—and then have the opportunity to reconnect 15 years later—is something truly special.

To this wonderful family, thank you for making our anniversary celebration even more meaningful. Your visit was a gift I'll never forget.

And to all of our clients over the past 15 years... thank you for trusting us to capture your stories. You have given us so much more than photographs—you've given us memories that continue long after the camera is put away.

This is why I do what I do. ❤️📸
