Nitre Hall, the circa-1810 home of gunpowder master William Rogers, will be open for free guided tours from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month through the summer and early fall. Visitors can learn more about this historic site and its role in Haverford Township’s Powder Mill Valley while touring the historic home.

Upcoming Nitre Hall Open Houses will take place on Sunday, August 30, and Sunday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays are car-free days on Karakung Drive through historic Powder Mill Valley, so visitors are encouraged to walk, jog, or cycle to Nitre Hall from Manoa Road or the Beechwood Bridge.

Less than a month away from the Heritage Festival! Glen Macnow, longtime WIP sports talk host and Havertown resident, hopes you’ll join us in celebrating our local heritage and America’s 250th birthday. There will be food, local vendors, live music, historical actors and activities and, of course, beer from Conshohocken Brewing Co.

Join us for a talk by Jeff Denman, author of Philadelphia Quakers and the American Revolution.

Fleeing political upheavals in England for settlement in the New World, Quakers rose to unprecedented economic and political power in the Pennsylvania colony. Through the words of those who were there, author and historian Jeff Denman vividly describes the precipitous rise of the Philadelphia Quakers and their fall during the American Revolution.

This program is made possible through a partnership between the Haverford Township Historical Society and the Library.

The Haverford Township Free Library and the Haverford Township Historical Society are participating in a Township-wide collaboration of non-profit organizations producing a special series of events celebrating the semiquincentennial in 2026.
