The Harwinton Library Friends was incorporated on December 23, 1981. It is a service organization comprised of local area residents whose purpose is to stimulate increased awareness of Library programs and use of the Library, plus give financial support and assist the Library staff. Our principal fund raising efforts are the annual Book, Plant and Bake Sale (held the third weekend in May) and the
Open House/Holiday Craft Sale (held the first Saturday in December through December 23rd). The Friends provide the means to purchase discount passes to area museums and attractions (see listing below). When and Where do the Friends Meet? The Friends meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Harwinton Public Library. Meetings are informal discussions of ways to support the library. Even if you can't attend meetings, you can still assist the Friends! Anyone interested in the welfare of the Harwinton Public Library can become a Friend. Being a member of the Friends is a good way to have fun while supporting the Library. Please call or email us for more info. DISCOUNT PASSES TO AREA ATTRACTIONS
Our passes are purchased annually by the Harwinton Library Friends, and the cost to the library remains the same whether they sit in our drawer or are used every day. Any registered Harwinton Public Library patron over the age of 18 whose membership is in good standing for a minimum of one month may borrow a pass. A statement must be signed by the borrower agreeing to assume responsibility for the pass. Circulation periods are limited to two (2) days. We will be happy to place a hold on passes that are out, and reserve passes that are available up to two (2) business days. A brochure explaining the museum pass program is available at the front desk. PLEASE NOTE: Passes may be checked out for 48 hours. A $20 deposit for each pass is required and will be refunded when the pass is returned.
