As the Quechee Gorge road bridge has finally reopened after many months we thought that we would commemorate it by showing a photo of the first train to cross the original railroad bridge after it was constructed. The photo shows the "Winooski" engine testing the bridge in 1875. It is surprising that there are several bystanders on the bridge! Construction cost was $28,000. In 1911 it was replaced with a steel arch design by the American Bridge Co. The last run of the Woodstock railway was April 15th 1933.

This is a photo taken August 11th 1915 during construction of what is now the Rec Center. It was built as the Hartland Grammar School and opened in February 1916. The construction cost was $6,135.

his is another photo in the series taken of the August 13th 1913 parade celebrating Hartland's 150th birthday. This particular float depicts Timothy Lull and family in their boat, with "Timothy" at the oars, and his son in the rear of the boat carrying a gun. The float is passing the barn which stood at the back of the Pavilion Hotel (where Damon Hall stands now).

This photo continues last week's theme and shows part of the 1913 parade celebrating Hartland's 150th birthday. The photo shows part of the parade which represented the "Progress in Modes of Travel". It included horseback, then various types of horse drawn vehicles, bicycles, automobiles and finally modern horseback.

The photo below was taken at the August 16th 1913 parade which was held in honor of Hartland's 150th birthday. Float #16 is the Grange; Float #17 is the Daughters of Liberty; Float #18 is the Junior Order United American Mechanics. They are show at the junction of Bowers Rd and Rt 12.

This photo was taken August 17th 1900. In early years this building on Advent Hill was the Adventist schoolhouse. In later years it was used as the Fish & Game Club. Suppers were served there. In the early 1970's the Hartland Hill Hoppers rode their snowmobiles there at night for oyster stew dinners. In more recent years it was used as a storage building by owners Hial & Evelyn Lobdell before being torn down c2011.
