In 1854 a Norwegian settlement called Greenfield Prairie was established . It was located at the present-day site of the
Greenfield Lutheran Cemetery (east side) just south of Harmony on 139. The US post office was verified the same year. The stagecoach line ran from Dubuque to St Paul with stops at Elliota, Greenfield Prairie , Ravine / Dayton Hotel as a stop over. This was a thriving community until the 1870's when the railroad was built in 1879 a mile to the north. Many of the business men moved their buildings and built homes here to be closer to the railroad. Harmony, Minnesota was incorporated in 1895.
