Students conduct archaeological dig to ‘shed more light’ on African American population in 19th century Lake Forest

An interesting article about archaeology in Lake County. Artifacts about the Underground Railroad are elusive at best, since the activities were always surreptitious.

We are happy to report that the Mother Rudd Home Museum is (just barely) above the flood waters in Gurnee. Mother Rudd had the foresight to build on (relatively) high ground!

Normally our volunteers meet at the house every Tuesday morning, but are unable to do so this week because of road closures in the area. We hope to resume normal activities next week.

Our trustees hope to meet Tuesday, July 25th, at 7 P.M. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to attend.

General Meeting, Wednesday July 9th at 7pm: "Civil War Era Quilting."

Lee Laouras will give a talk about, and show, some quilts from the Civil War period to the end of the century. Lee has one original Civil War quilt and various reproduction quilts from that era.

Lee does machine piecing and hand quilting.

She was at the Museum in 2012 when she talked about general quilting. Her presentation was so interesting that even the men and non-quilters were riveted. Meet her again!

The program is free. The public is welcome.
