Gulf Coast Wall

Here at the museum, we have a series of photographs placed together on a wall. The photos each show planes and airports located across the Gulf Coast in Mississippi and other areas since the early 20th century. One photo includes an advertisement for an air show hosted in Bay St. Louis in the early 1990s. The wall is meant is show how the Gulf Coast has played an important role in aviation history in the Southern U.S. This is especially important in Mississippi. Come by and see the wall. Those of you who live along the Gulf Coast, may take pride in knowing your home area played a key role in aviation.

Air Force Section

Here at the museum, we have a small area dedicated to the servicemen and women of the United States Air Force. Though small, this section does give a great amount of respect to the pilots who fight for our country. Included in this section are mannequins dressed in different uniforms. This helps show how the air force has changed over the decades. Also included is information on a famous female colonel named Phyills Ann Luttman. Luttman served in the Air Force for over 30 years and made many contributions to the field of areomedicine. For example, she helped design a baffle system for respirators. This system is still used in areomedical flights around the world. Come by and learn more about Luttman and Air Force History. You'll find both subjects very entertaining.

Pilot Display

Across from the Mississippi Ninety-Nines section, we have two display cases. One shows the instructions on how to be a pilot. It has maps, manuels, and equipment most aviators use. The other display case has model helicopters; each one was used during a period of war. The first display case is important because it represents the ins and outs of being a pilot. It shows what pilots have to work with both during and after thier training. Come by and see the display cases for yourself. Once you get a look, you may think about piloting a plane of your own one day.

Bases Gallery Display Cases.

Here in our museum Bases Gallery, we have several display cases that help add more information to the exhibit. The display cases in the images below, contain model aircraft, medals, newspapers, certificates, photos, and books all related to the Second World War. Each item in the display tells a small story of the battles fought during the war and the bases where soldiers trained at. Come by and see the display cases for yourself. You'll find each item is an interesting piece of history.

Marble Run

The marble run is one of the most fun parts of the STEM area and the museum in general. A kind of rollercoaster for marbles, it has many twists, turns and slides. It is pretty fun and kids always end up playing with it over and over after a few marbles. Come by and have your kids try the marble run. We guarantee they will get a real kick out of it.

Closing

The museum will be closed Friday, October 9 due the arrival of Hurricane Isaias. The museum may be reopened on Saturday, October 10 depending on the conditions of the passing storm. We apologize for any inconvenience. Stay safe and we'll see you soon.

Conference room.

Here is the museum conference room. This is one of the most important rooms in the building. This is where Franscisco has meetings to discuss the museum's future. He'll often meet with board members and other patrons to talk about donations, grants, or events. He even meets with employees to brainstorm ideas that will help the museum flourish. The conference room also has a large collection of books and files on aviation. This collection often serves as research material when we wish to teach more details on aviation. Visitors generally aren't allowed in the conference room, but they can take a quick peek as they walk by. This is a room where ideas and hope are created; an important aspect we all must remember.

Playstation

Here in the STEM area we have a gaming system where kids can play air combat video games. It's a way of adding some more fun to the museum. Each game involves the player acting as a pilot during combat missions. Along the way the player faces enemy aircraft and has to take them down. Of course, we made sure the games are age appropriate. Come by and have your kids play the games themselves. They'll have a good time, we assure you.
