Please enjoy this celebration of Lisa Lauer’s recent work at the Discovery Gallery! She says of her process, “I am primarily a landscape painter. My process involves building up the surface of a painting with oil ground, followed by a mixture of oil paint and cold wax in layers of color. These layers are rubbed or scraped, creating variations in the surface texture. I approaching painting as if I’m creating my own topography.”

A few years ago she became interested in Eco Printing, a method of using local plants, metal, and rusty found objects to transfer color to fabrics and paper. As Jennie describes, ”It is a magical process: unpredictable, exciting, and free of toxic chemicals.” #

Artist Barbara Johannes often finds that her memory of the subject she photographed does not exactly match the camera’s view. When this occurs she takes great pleasure in using digital programs to manipulate her photos; making them more closely match the vision in her memory. Her work expresses not only her keen observations but also her wit, whimsy and her fun sense of humor.
