GREAT WEATHER, GREAT FOOD, GREAT FUN!
The annual STCHS Labor Day Family Barbecue was a popular success again this year. A crowd of about 200 Groveland residents - of all ages - came out to the PML Stables on Sunday, Sept. 6, to enjoy a spectacular day of perfect temps, good dancin' and listenin' music, tasty food, and good friendship under the oaks. Supervisor Steve Griefer and the STCHS grill team cooked up a storm of tri-tip and dogs. Thanks to an army of volunteers under Patricia Gibson's coordination, the event was definitely one for the record books. Be sure to mark your calendars for next year!

MANY THANKS TO CATHERINE SANTA MARIA
STCHS has announced that Catherine Santa Maria, its long-time Treasurer, has retired after 13 years of service to the Groveland Museum and the community. Catherine was a key member of the Board in every facet of the Museum's activities. From financial expertise and business acumen to excellent networking throughout Tuolumne County. An active member of the aviation community in PML, she spearheaded a number of needed improvements in the Museum's systems and technology. We can't express our appreciation enough for her many contributions. Best of luck in your next chapter!

GOT AN EYE FOR A GOOD PICTURE??
The Museum is looking for a talented photographer or artist to volunteer to help clean up some of the roughly 1000 photos in our collection. Maybe you use Photoshop or another good photo processing software. If you have a few extra hours a week to help us on this project, please contact us at the Museum (209 962 0300). We'd appreciate a helping hand!

FARMING IN GOLD COUNTRY: FROM VEGETABLES TO VINEYARDS
On Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Resilience Center, STCHS renews its popular Speakers Series with a fascinating talk about agriculture in the Motherlode. Harvey Mains, a Certified Master Gardener in Calaveras County, will discuss the development of farming in Tuolumne and its sister counties (Calaveras, Amador), including a look at our home-grown wineries. Our history is more than just mining and tourism.
Harvey has taught gardening and horticulture on both East and West Coasts, and is sure to have insights that we all wish we had.

MUSEUM RECOGNITION MUCH DESERVED
Congressman Tom McClintock and Supervisor Steve Griefer, who both represent Tuolumne County, came to the Museum in a joint visit on July 39. The two public officials (pictured below) were touring southern Tuolumne County and made a special stop at the Museum. Museum docents provided a welcome and brief tour of our exhibits. The Congressman took particular notice of our 25 years of successful community leadership. Welcome back anytime, Mr. Supervisor and Mr. Congressman!

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER MAKES GOOD
Groveland's own wildlife photographer, Dave Douglass, shared some of his best photos of local wildlife before an enthusiastic audience at the Resilience Center on Friday, August 7. For many years Dave has captured terrific images of the birds and other critters we know here in southern Tuolumne County. No matter how many times we've seen them, it's always a treat to see these colorful photos that bring the animals to life. Thank you, Dave!
