Winston then → Winston now.
When I first created Winston, his adventure belonged to Wyoming.
When I returned to the story a couple of years later, I realized I wanted his surroundings to reflect the landscape that is home to me—the tangled greenery, wildflowers, woodland animals, and wonderfully imperfect beauty of the Southeast.
So rather than simply republishing the original, I went back into the story and made it my own again.
New title.
Revised story.
New illustrations.
New characters.
A new hardcover edition.
But the same curious little Winston at the center of it all.

Meet Winston in the Wild. 🌼🐾

Winston may be a little dog, but inside, he knows he is meant for BIG adventures.
When his curiosity leads him into the woods alone, Winston meets a few much bigger neighbors—and discovers that even the bravest adventurers can get a little scared.
This new edition has been rewritten and illustrated by me and published with Shine Press as a beautiful hardcover book.
I can’t quite describe how special it feels to see Winston come back to life this way.

Why I brought Winston back…

A couple of years ago, I wrote and illustrated a little children’s book called Winston in Wyoming.

I’ve always loved Winston and his adventurous spirit, but over time, I changed. My artwork changed. My creative life grew in new directions. And the landscapes that inspire me most became the woods, wildflowers, animals, and quiet corners of the Southeastern United States.

I kept thinking about Winston—and eventually realized I didn’t simply want to reprint his story. I wanted to tell it again from where I am now.

So I rewrote and re-illustrated the book, giving Winston a new world to explore.

Winston in Wyoming has become Winston in the Wild. 🌿

It still has the heart of the original story, but this version feels much more like the artist, storyteller, and mother I am today.

Have you ever returned to something you created years ago and seen it completely differently? I’d love to hear.
