Green Light Art Studios Putnam County Comprehensive Services Inc. has embarked in a journey to jump-start arts programming for the individuals served by PCCS.

With guidance from Susan Dlouhy and Patty Mitchell, consultants with the Creative Abundance Group from Columbus, Ohio, PCCS is exploring artistic endeavors as a creative form of expression and also as a potential income source for the people PCCS serves. With a well-documented history of success, Dlouhy and Mitchell bring a collective 52 years of experience in art and administration of programs wo

rking with individuals with disabilities.

“Just in this first week alone,” PCCS Executive Director Andrew Ranck said, “the change in moods and willingness to participate is phenomenal.

“Staff members are excited because the individuals receiving services are in control of the activity,” he continued. “They are picking what they want to do and the atmosphere is much more relaxed than regular vocational activities. Individuals aren’t hearing, ‘No, you can’t’, they are hearing ‘Yes, you can!’“

With a long-term goal of a fully community integrated arts studio and gallery space for all of Greencastle to utilize and enjoy, PCCS has been given great guidance to be on the right track for success. PCCS is continuing to accept donations of arts supplies, wood, house paint and used clothing and blankets. Also, if a community artist has a talent they would like to share, PCCS is also looking for guest artists to share their medium and let the individuals served experience new and different approaches to art. We have been hard at work combining two of our most beloved events, Strawberries on the Square & the Franklin Farmers Market. Sam finished his constructive drawing and painting of the Purdue logo!!!

High five to you Sam, nice job!

He put a ton of work into using positive and negative space shape finding into a finished piece. He opted to keep the construction lines to show where all the measuring and learning took place.

Sam is also very interested in learning about composition and is doing a great job learning and putting his hard work on color theory into practice!
