This exhibition was co-curated by Nicole Maria Evans, Chief Curator/Director of Curatorial Affairs at Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art (The Square) and Gregory Vettel, Director of the Northwest Arts Center at Minot State University. Exhibitions presented by The Square are supported in part by the Montana Arts Council, a state agency funded by the State of Montana and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Square is funded in part by coal severance taxes paid based upon coal mined in Montana and deposited in Montana’s cultural and aesthetic projects trust fund. Created in partnership with Northwest Arts Center- Minot State University and the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation. Collaboration and support from Prairie Public Television in North Dakota.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for Tawni Shuler's artist talk for her exhibition In Mythos & Fairy Tales! This show will be up through October 24th, don't miss it!

This exhibition originated at the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College and is traveling via the Montana Art Gallery Directors Association (MAGDA). Saturday, August 29, is the last day to explore all three galleries of Walter Piehl Jr.'s exhibition "Wild Forms, Enduring Spirit" before the art is sent back to its homes in private and public collections in North Dakota and Montana. "In Mythos & Fairy Tales: Works by Tawni Shuler" is on view on the second floor Community Gallery at The Square through October 24, 2026.

About this Exhibition:
Tawni Shuler develops fable-based large scale black and white drawings on thick heavy fiber paper that are sophisticated in technique to express universal themes such as joy, heartbreak, jealousy, pride, and aggression. The works take shape as visual stories of animals in a variety of imaginary settings that serve as metaphors for the human experience.

This exhibition originated at the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College, organized by Assistant Professor of Photography and Printmaking/ Gallery Director of Edward A. Whitney Gallery, Brittney Denham-Whisonant, and is sponsored by the Montana Art Gallery Directors Association (MAGDA), a state-wide service organization for non-profit museums & galleries, and supported in part by grants from the Montana Arts Council, a state agency funded by the State of Montana; coal severance taxes paid based upon coal mined in Montana and deposited in Montana's Cultural and Aesthetic Projects Trust Fund; and the National Endowment for the Arts. Meet our smallest and brightest volunteers! Last year, Electric City Conservatory generously donated 72 marigold plants to accompany "Meet Me in Montana", our newest outdoor sculpture by Janina Myronowa. This year, much to our delight, last year's marigolds seeded themselves! Pollinators love them, and we think they're the perfect sunny accent to highlight Janina's sculpture.
