Grantsburg Area Historical Society

Grantsburg Area Historical Society Our goal is to Preserve our History of the whole surrounding area's and of Grantsburg. Once History is Forgotten, it is LOST.

The Grantsburg Area Historical Museum grounds include three historic 19th-century structures. Visitors can tour an early Burnett County jail and the village blacksmith's house. An 1897 built Norwegian Methodist church houses exhibits that celebrate the local history. We also have a one room School as it was back in the day.

And i know this barn was a gathering place with drinking and barn dances, it was located north of town on Co. F, near my Grandfather's brother in laws place, John Nelsons, Nelsons landing on the St Croix. Any info would be great. Billy Haraldson. Admin.

Did you know that Wisconsin became the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment in 1920 giving women the right to vote? In 1921 Wisconsin passed the nation's first equal rights bill, granting women full equality with men under law.

Happy birthday to Wisconsin’s own pioneer naturalist and noted author, Increase Lapham! He was one of the first authors and map makers in Wisconsin and wrote the famous “Antiquities of Wisconsin,” the first book length investigation of Wisconsin's Indian mounds. LOVE ICE CREAM :)

LOVE ICE CREAM :)

It is claimed that the Ice Cream Sundae was invented in Two Rivers on this date in 1881. Druggist and soda fountain owner Ed Berners of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, was asked by a customer to top a dish of ice cream with chocolate sauce, an ingredient previously used only in ice cream sodas. The new tasty treat became very popular, though it was only served on Sundays. Numerous other locations claim to have created the first ice cream sundae, and it is unclear which community deserves the title.

History Meet Up tonight at the Grantsburg Senior Center. These member meetings are always open to the public and we'd love to see you there! 5:30pm for pot luck (I have it on good authority that there will be corned beef and cabbage! as well as other goodies!). We are excited to have a presentation about the history of Branstad. Who knew that little "blink and you'd miss it" town used to be such a happening place!? Come and join us for great food and a little bit of history tonight at the Grantsburg Senior Center.

How about some , "Mystery History" As a kid my Aunt Rose D'Jock would tell us kids stories while riding in the car at night. She would tell of the story of the "Woman in White" usually seen at night along the meadows walking, sometimes standing on the side of the road. Have any of you ever heard these tales ?? Billy.
