LaMoure County Museum

LaMoure County Museum Located in Memorial Park, 1 mile north of Grand Rapids, N.D. Features the old county courthouse, a schoolhouse, a church, a workshop, and the "annex."

Open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Private tours available by reservation. The Beginning - The Museum building was erected in 1883 and was used as the LaMoure County Courthouse until the famous "County Seat Fight" between the people of Grand Rapids and LaMoure. The building, having lost its purpose, was sold in 1902 and moved to Edgeley. In 1981 the structure was purchased b

y the LaMoure County Commissioners and moved to Memorial Park to be used as a museum to display memorabilia and artifacts common to this area. It now is within one mile of its original site. The idea for a museum was launched when Henry Arndt donated his collection of antiques to the county with the request that they be displayed in a suitable building in LaMoure County Memorial Park near Grand Rapids. Since then other antiques have been donated by interested citizens.

Eleven years ago, High Prairie Lutheran Church, a small church northeast of LaMoure, N.D., closed its doors. The building itself was sold to a local family. With no home for the beautiful stained-glass windows, altar, organ, pulpit, and other items, High Prairie members met with the LaMoure County Museum curator and board, and a project was started to build a small country church where all these historic artifacts could be preserved and also be viewed by the public.
A very successful fundraising drive was started, and construction of the church began in 2016. Since its construction, some items from other now-closed churches have also found a home in our country church.
The church is open for viewing during our open hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. It has also been used for baptisms, renewal of vows, and Sunday services. If you would like to use our church, please contact the LaMoure County Auditor’s office at 701-883-5301 or our museum curator at 883-4328. You can also reach us via Messenger on this page.
