**NOTICE REGARDING OUR 2020 MOTORCAR RIDES AND MUSEUM ADMISSIONS

Due to the on-going health crisis and based on recommendations by our State Officials, our season opening is postponed until further notice.

We will continue to monitor the situation and be governed by the guidelines issued.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and support!

Stay healthy everyone!

Hello everyone!

We have noticed a lot of you are stopping by the page and checking for updates. While we have nothing exciting to report, rest assured things are going on.

Our shop building is getting some organizational work done to make it easier to work on other projects. The museum building is being remodeled a bit to facilitate some new displays. There are some additional donations we are working to finalize that will help us tell the story of railroads here in northwest Ohio.

We have a lot of work to do to the grounds at our facility in Grand Rapids, as the very wet year was not kind to us at all. We hope to make things look more inviting for when our season begins in May.

As always, THANK YOU to all for your continued support!

Santa visited with us today in the caboose! Dozens of happy kids, big and small, were able to visit and share their wishes with him.

He will only be with us Sunday from 11 to 2, as he has other places to visit with more kids!

TLE&W was recently awarded a $500 Business Grant from the Waterville Area Chamber of Commerce. We applied for this grant to help finance some scrap tie cleanup near the Browning Masonic Community. We were able to fill 2 30-yard dumpsters with scrap ties for disposal in an acceptable facility.

We haven't been the best neighbor, and we consider this grant as a good-faith show of support by the Chamber, as well as the Waterville area, for what we are and what we do. This type of support helps us to improve and be better neighbors in the communities we are in. Thank you Chamber!

Our museum building has a new roof! Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, and being able to free up some money, we were able to complete this project before winter took its toll.

This was a high priority repair project, and we appreciate the quality job done by Bill Evans of Evans Roofing. He is knowledgable and experienced, and has done numerous jobs for friends and family.

Projects like this are what help us improve what we have and what we do. If you like what you see, won't you help us out with a small donation? Your support is what helps us grow and succeed! Thank you everyone!

We had an interesting visitor in Grand Rapids today. This is a hand-pump car that was used in the early days of railroading for the gandy dancers to get to a remote job site to work on the track.

This particular car was constructed from original drawings to be as authentic as possible.

Well it has been 6 months in the works but TLE&W has finally taken delivery of its 1968-built Chessie System (C&O) Caboose #3161.
This represents the most modern piece of equipment ever on the TLE&W roster. It is also the first piece donated to the railroad in many years and is only the start of even more exciting things to come in the near future!
We did a quick clean up of graffiti and repainting of the Chessie System and Kitty on the side to make it semi presentable until a complete Chessie System restoration is performed in the future.
We need to thank those members that have worked long hours to make this happen and are working on several other future surprises!

Look what we uncovered in the shop today!
A very old Direct Current Switchboard out of the former Toledo Edison Plant on Front Street. This is a really cool item with some very ornate vintage Westinghouse/Weston/General Electric gauges and very heavy duty knife switches!
It measures 11' long, 8' tall, approximately 56" total from back to the face of the most protruding switch/gauge face.
**If you are a old time Frankenstein fan this would look great in your man cave laboratory!

It is a beautiful day and maybe very hot but some of our members were out working hard doing things like unloading this 3000 pound 36" wheel set that was acquired this week to be used during a priority repair to the Bluebird Passenger Train sometime soon so we can return to operation later this Summer.
**Don't ask when, we will post it for everyone to see as soon as we have a date set!

Men and Women, Become a TLE&W Member!

TLE&W would like to invite you to join our all-volunteer organization. All operations of the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum are handled entirely by volunteers.

There is a place for almost everyone at TLE&W. No matter what your interest or personal skills are, we have a place for you that fits your interests and capabilities from ticket sales to track maintenance. Many of our members wear several different hats and can be seen doing several different jobs they enjoy assisting in making TLE&W a better place for the community and as a NW Ohio Tourist Attraction.

Our members are as diverse as one can imagine, many have no prior professional railroading experience, although we do have several current and retired railroad employees in our organization that assist with our operation insuring that things are done properly and safely.

You don't have to live in the area as we have members that regularly travel from Indiana, Michigan, Southern and Eastern Ohio to participate with activities and projects throughout the year. We also have many members across the country that simply join as non-active members just to show support of our organization. Since we are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations beyond membership dues are tax deductible!
We are entirely self-funded mainly through train operations, events and generous outside donations.

Here are just a few of the many things our members have to choose from as volunteers: Ticket Sales, Museum & Gift Shop Staff, Accountant, Motorcar Operators, Car Attendants, Restoration Projects, Property Maintenance (building repairs to simply cutting grass on a riding mower), Applebutter, Santa Claus Train, Halloween Train, Bluebird Passenger Train, Locomotive and Car Maintenance, Conductor, Brakeman & Engineer (once qualified) and much, much more! We are not looking for more know it all's to stand around holding a clipboard looking important, we already have a couple extras of those!

Membership is open to those 18+ years old. Sorry we no longer have a junior membership outside of our family membership due to Federal regulations since we are classed as a active railroad.

All we ask as a active member is that you volunteer a minimum of 40 hours a year, that is only 3-1/2 hours a month, although many of our members average over 20 hours a week so it is up to you as to how much of your time you would like to contribute.

Join today and make some new friends and memories!

Today a couple of our members took the day to continue organizing TLE&W's Mechanical Shop Building.

Our friends from the Northern Ohio Railway Museum came out and helped by picking up a spare spool of traction overhead wire TLE&W had that they will be using in the near future to expand their trolley operations near Chippewa Lake Ohio.

Even though this Saturday will be colder than the past few days, our dedicated members will be back at the shop taking advantage of the above freezing temps while we can.

Tonight the weather in Grand Rapids was perfect!
TLE&W enjoyed participating in this years Grand Rapids "Light Up The Night" Christmas Parade.
We want to thank every member that came out and made sure things went smoothly and supported the TLE&W for what is believed to be the biggest turnout of viewers for the parade along Front Street in many years!
If anyone out there was able to get a picture of us during the parade please post it so everyone can see what they missed.

We have been busy working on the railroad this summer so our posts have been few and far between. We have had many good things come our way this year, and this next year looks very promising after overcoming most of the issues that had taken place during the previous decade that had brought the railroad to a halt for a period of time. Track work continues and the Bluebird is coming along.

TLE&W would like to thank all those that have come out and supported us during 2017 especially those that have been very generous with donations that have helped us move forward with many current projects and future needs. We have also had several collections of railroad artifacts and work equipment donated that will be used or displayed by TLE&W.

Please be patient, in this case no news is good news!

The volunteer members are working hard in all facets of running a railroad. One of the many tasks is working to keep the property maintained, but it certainly doesn't help our cause when we have neighbors who seem to think that our property is their personal landfill. We have many instances where grass is being dumped along our track, which is a nuisance but manageable, illegal nonetheless. Things like finding this pile of crap make our jobs more difficult because now we have to deal with the cleanup and expense to dispose of these materials. The local law enforcement agencies will take a report, but will not pursue any action to solve this problem.

Kept it simple and to the point at this years Toledo Train Day. Promoted the TLE&W and the return of the Bluebird this Summer. Over all a good day, met a lot of good people that were genuinely interested it what was taking place on the railroad and listened to many stories from peoples memories of riding the Bluebird as a kid. Which is why we have been working hard on it's return during this Summer so their kids and grandkids can someday share their memories.
Thank you everyone that purchased 1st Day Ride Tickets at the show.

Sounding pretty good this Saturday. Please consider a donation, joining or come ride the motor car rides over the river to get this Alco pulling trains once more.
Have you located the part yet for the C&O Alco? I was just out at Buffalo Southern and NYLE and both have switchers for parts sitting there, may want to contact them. Still hunting for you guys, want to see it pull trains once more.
A very interesting experience with beautiful scenery.
Jim McKay - I seem to recall a video of this line where the consist began with a cold Detroit Edison steam Locomotive in front, followed by the tender and a 45-ton pushing the front and puling a couple coaches from behind. Almost fooled me at first. Did Anyone else ever see it?
Sent in a donation. Hope it helps.
I would like to wish all TLEW members and their families a very Merry Christmas!
A new railroad attraction will soon be in Northeast Ohio.
On the YouTube Video I was surprised at the number of cars that ignored the flashing red lights at the railroad crossing near the Maumee River.
Look! You made it on Only In Ohio!!!
Didn't know if anyone would be interested?
