Located at Cross Orchards Historic Site, the Grand Valley Model Railroad Club endeavors to model the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, and other Colorado railroads, circa 1950. Our building, built-in 2000, houses our primary HO Scale layout. We began construction in 2004 and have faithfully modeled Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Minturn, and other towns as they would have looked in the post
war era, complete with the Union Depot, Glenwood Station, and other structures. Next to it is a small Scenic Ridge N Scale layout that kids love. Our outdoor G Gauge layout, located just to the south, loosely models the Uintah Railway in the late ‘30s, with some later Rio Grande elements. It began construction in 1996 by Cross Orchards before it was absorbed by the GVMRC in 1998. Trains pass beneath the Whiskey Creek Trestle: an original Uintah Railway wooden trestle relocated to the Museum of Cross Orchards. Adjacent is Cross Orchard's largest collection of Uintah cars on the Western Slope.
